I think somewhere along the way childhood became very loud.
More screens.
More noise.
More stimulation.
More “keeping children entertained.”
But some of the best moments I see happen around the simplest things…
A mixing bowl.
A table full of colour.
Children chatting while they create something together.
Not performing.
Not rushing.
Just completely absorbed in the moment ✨
Tiny Tastemakers
Welcome to Tiny Tastemakers, where the kitchen becomes the ultimate growth and development zone, and learning is a delicious adventure!
Nestled in the heart of St Albans, we're on a mission to empower young minds through cooking!
Last week, parents at our school organised a “playing out” afternoon as part of the screen-free childhood movement.
No big plan.
No packed schedule.
Just a park, a play area, a few simple activities, and space for free play.
And despite the weather… loads turned up.
Kids ran around, climbed trees, played football, made things, got messy.
I had a small stall where they could make Easter nests, and what stood out wasn’t what they made…
it was how they were.
Focused.
Calm.
Completely in it.
No pressure.
No rushing.
No screens.
This is something I care deeply about, and it’s a big part of what sits underneath Tiny Tastemakers.
Creating space for children to slow down, get involved, and build confidence through real experiences.
We need more of this. 🤍
When children use their hands, something deeper than skill is happening.
Hands-on activity sends powerful signals to the brain. It supports focus, helps regulate the nervous system, and builds a sense of capability and calm. This is why activities like cooking, crafting, and making things matter so much, especially in a world that asks children to sit still and consume.
I see it again and again. When we slow down and let children do the work, their bodies settle, their confidence grows, and connection follows naturally.
This is the kind of learning I care about.
And it’s what I share here.
🤍
I’ve learnt this from years of cooking with children.
Not from quick wins, but from watching what actually sticks.
Quiet confidence, building.
🤍
There’s a lot of noise telling parents what they should be doing.
We’ve always believed children don’t need more distraction.
They need to feel included.
Tiny Tastemakers is built on everyday moments, real skills, and quiet confidence.
This isn’t new to us.
It’s our foundation.
