Hola amigos,
We had a very nice Christmas lunch in Zizzi's a few weeks ago. Thanks for coming.
We intend to restart our Spanish conversations in the second week of January. We meet on Thursdays at 10am in Waterstone's Cafeteria, St Albans. Please let me know if you/know someone who would like to attend.
Gracias y feliz navidad.

A los que comparten risas, a los que lloran, a los que tienen alguien a su lado, a los que no lo tienen, a los que veo a menudo, a los que echo de menos. A todos vosotros: os deseo mucha salud y ¡Feliz Navidad!

August newsletter:
Just a few weeks ago I was enjoying a nice paella in a beach in Málaga. Now I am back in England and, I have to admit, I am missing the rain. I never thought I would miss it! The whole point of going to Spain is to get away from bad weather, talk to everyone about how great it was and have a moan about the weather here (even though deep inside you are a little relieved that it is a bit cooler!). Is everything going mad? Will we stop going on holiday to Spain and the Spaniards will come here instead? Is this the end of the world as we know it? Please let me know your thoughts.
Anyway, that's my rant for this month. I have listed below some songs that I think will help you to improve your Spanish. You can find them on YouTube, iTunes or Spotify. Let me know what you think.
Me gustas tú
Todas las cosas tienen su color
Tengo
Esta soy yo
Limón y sal
Somos tú y yo
Bulería
El día que me quieras

July newsletter.
Well, I cannot remember having such a long hot summer, or maybe I am just getting old! I would like to arrange a get together on Monday 8th August at 7pm in the King Harry Pub. Please let me know if you would like to attend. This month I list some great places to visit in Spain.
Barcelona: The centre of attraction is Las Ramblas, a series of alleys and narrow streets full of night clubs, vibrant markets, and fine restaurants. But the most visited place is its tour of Antoni Gaudi's masterpieces.
Madrid: Head to the Prado Museum, a place with works of famous artists including Goya and Velázquez. El Palacio Real (Royal Palace) is the must-visit place. And do not forget to leave plenty of room for your luggage when you visit the El Rastro flea market, offering you hours of shopping. When you are tired of exploring, enjoy Madrid’s cuisine.
Seville: There is a mix of culture, so during your visit to Seville, you will experience the Islamic, Jewish, and Christian influences in churches, minarets, and former ghettos. A stroll along the Guadalquivir River offers a breathtaking view, or a walk through the streets of Barrio Santa Cruz gives you a chance to taste the local flavour of boutique shops, outdoor plazas, and tapas bar. If you have spare time, uncover the royal story of the Real Alcázar palace or get lost in the gardens of Parque Maria Luisa.
Valencia: Visitors will surely enjoy their days strolling, lots of gardens. La Albufera National Park is a great place for hikers. Art aficionados can visit the City of Arts and Science.
Costa Brava: The Dalí Theatre Museum and Paublo’s castle is a treat to eyes. If you are a history aficionado, visit Ampurias, one of Spain's well preserved Archaeological sites.
Almería: Film buffs will love a trip here where the best movies like Cleopatra, Indiana Jones, Lawrence of Arabia and The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly was filmed.
Santiago de Compostela: The capital of Galicia, Camino De Santiago de Compostela, is a route to some of the beautiful places on the earth. The 500-mile journey through northern Spain is popular among cyclists, walkers, and hikers. But its true gem is Santiago de Compostela where a top Spanish festival takes place on 25th July.
San Fermín: The brass bands, fireworks, alfresco dancing under the string of fairy lights are the fascination of this festival. You can run with bulls through the town’s cobbled streets, although I personally would not recommend it as they are big, can run faster than us and have big pointy horns!
Alhambra:The real gem of Alhambra is its elegant and beautiful gardens of Alhambra. It is so lovely; people described it as ‘a pearl set in emeralds.’ On top of that, the surrounding colours of the building and woodland bring charm on this garden.
Sierra Nevada:Due to its unique natural habitats, It is declared as a UNESCO Biosphere reserve in 1986. Apart from this, The Sierra Nevada has a unique landscape, facing the Mediterranean, making a perfect place for thermal spa and springs.
Do you know a place you would recommend?

June newsletter
You may be bracing yourself for the "scorchio" weather this week. Spanish summers (especially in the South) are very hot, so perhaps you might like to try some of their recipes designed to cool you down:
- Melon with Serrano ham. Simply skewer a piece of Serrano ham and a piece of melon.
- Gazpacho: this cold tomato soup is not just very refreshing but very easy to make.
- Salmorejo: a Gazpacho variant with vinegar, eggs and cured ham.
- Smoked salmon with a French baguette and cream cheese.
- Toasted bread with tomato (passata), olive oil and Serrano ham.
- Quince paste with cheese and bread: the sweet and savoury mix is great.
- Spanish potato salad: known as Ensaladilla Rusa is made with boiled potatoes, red peppers, green peas, carrots, mayonnaise and tinned tuna.
- Quince (membrillo) paste with fresh cheese; great desert!
- Pan con tomate: a very popular breakfast made from grated tomato, olive oil and garlic, spread on toasted French bread.
I hope some of these ideas will help. Is there something you do that is not mentioned here but works for you? If so, please let me know.
