With the end of August almost upon us it is time to say goodbye to our children who are leaving for school. We enjoyed a brilliant graduation party in July, and we will miss them greatly, but we know they are ready for their next stage, and we wish them the very best of luck in the future. Thank you also to all the parents/carers for your generosity and kindness. We have received so many wonderful cards, gifts and kind words. Thank you.

Our new term is starting soon, and we have lots of exciting activities and topics planned. We are looking forward to providing a very warm welcome to all our new starters and returning children and having a fantastic autumn term!🍂🍁🌳

At Ashdon Childrens Nursery the children have been enjoying Taste Education (TastEd) sessions!

TastEd are a charity aiming to revolutionise the way Food Education is taught in the UK, so that taste education becomes a basic aspect of every child’s knowledge. Just as children are taught how to read and write, they need to learn the ‘food literacy’ that will help them become more confident, adventurous, and healthy eaters.

In a typical TastEd lesson, a teacher brings vegetables or fruits into the classroom. The children talk and write about what they see, smell, touch, hear, and taste and whether they enjoy it or not. TastEd lessons are based on the Sapere method, which has been used with great success in many European countries for decades. Taste education is food education pared down to its simplest form, but the impact on the way children relate to food can be huge.

The amazing Fran (the director of TastEd) also kindly visited the nursery and delivered a workshop with our parents and carers. Fran was very inspiring and explained and demonstrated how we can help our children to explore more and new fruit and vegetables. Thank you to all the parents and carers that attended. 🍓🍌🍎🫛🥕🥝🥭🫐

Kindness ✨🥰

The world needs more kindness, and it starts in childhood.

It’s the small moments that matter the most- holding a friend’s hand, including someone in play, showing empathy, and learning to care for the people around us.

Through play, friendships, and shared experiences, children learn that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference.
As practitioners, we know children learn not only through what we teach, but through what we model every day. By being positive role models and creating environments built on respect, care, and connection, we help children understand the value of kindness in everyday life.

Because, when children learn kindness early, they carry it with them for life.

World Art Day was on Wednesday 15th April, we unleashed our creativity and we let our imaginations soar! We used painting, drawing, sculpting and crafting to provide a canvas for self-expression. The children enjoyed listening to different classical music to help boost their creativity and enhance their focus.

The children have really been enjoying reading the story ‘The three billy goats gruff’ so we had our very own kid goats arrive at the nursery. We became story tellers and practised our story telling language. The children then independently retold the story using story props and instruments. We hope you all have a wonderful Easter, and we look forward to seeing you again on Monday 13th April.

We have been travelling around the world, and we made a stop in China to learn about the country and the Chinese New Year. We have been making lanterns, visiting our resident horses (as it is year of the horse!), making masks for a Chinese dragon dance, eating Chinese stir fry and enjoying our very own Chinese restaurant role play area. We have also been learning about Ramadan. A grandparent, of one of the children in the nursery, kindly visited the nursery to talk about Ramadan and how it is observed.

It was World Book Day on Thursday this week and we had brilliant fun storytelling, and the amazing party factory visited the nursery to retell the story of ‘The Sugar lump and the Unicorn’. Thank you to all children, parents, and staff, who participated in our book week. The children showed a great love of books and many amazing costumes were worn.
