Block building isn't always about building something. Sometimes block building is all about the process - lining up, balancing, and exploring principles of design.

One of the reasons I never ask children "What's your plan?" is that it's okay to not have a plan, and to simiply let your ideas develop through the process of engaging with the materials. That's what play based learning is all about.

Saying “Use your words” as a behaviour management instruction is a good start, but getting involved, working through basic feelings and guiding kids through their social struggles will equip them with strategies for next time.

Here are some suggestions for extending the concept of behind "use your words".

You can also try using my song, "Hard Feelings", from "Senses". It helps children learn about what they are feeling and coaches them through expressing their feelings.

Another happy family
Anne came round for a chat on Tuesday as I’ve been struggling with my 22 month old not sleeping in her own bed and screaming if I try to put her in her cot. Anne gave me suggestions on how to change our bedtime routine and advised on how to deal with her crying once in bed. We’re 3 nights in and she has slept the last 2 nights from 7.30 till 7. I can’t thank Anne enough for how she has changed our lives.
