⚔️ BEGINNER'S HEMA COURSE - STARTING 9TH SEPTEMBER! ⚔️
Ever fancied learning how to fight with a longsword? Why not give it a go?
Coventry Longpoint's four-week Introduction to German Longsword course starts on Wednesday 9th September.
• Wednesdays: 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th September
• Time: 7.00-9.00pm
• Venue: Sports Connexion, Ryton-on-Dunsmore
• Cost: £25 for all four weeks - NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED!
So, what is HEMA?
Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) is a rapidly growing martial arts community that brings historical fighting systems back to life using surviving books, manuscripts and other historical sources.
At Coventry Longpoint, our primary focus is German Longsword, studying techniques and traditions dating from the 14th to the 16th centuries.
During the Beginner's Course, you'll learn the fundamentals of longsword fencing, including:
• Basic guards, attacks, parries and other defensive techniques
• Timing, distance and tactics
• Practical partner exercises and sparring principles
• How we use historical sources to reconstruct these fighting systems
We'll be exploring material from masters including Johannes Liechtenauer, Joachim Meyer, and Andre Paurenfeyndt, as well as the Codex Wallerstein.
And you don't need any previous martial arts or fencing experience. The course is designed specifically for beginners, and all the equipment you need for the sessions is provided.
Once you've completed the Beginner's Course, you'll also have the opportunity to explore other historical weapon systems, including sword and buckler, sabre, staff and spear.

Your £25 course fee covers:
• Four weeks of instruction
• Hall fees
• Equipment/kit hire
• Temporary insurance
All you'll need to bring is comfortable clothing suitable for martial arts, trainers, and a bottle of water.
