Sign of the Month! 🌟

Hello everyone! Welcome to our first sign of the Month!

British sign Language (BSL) and the use of Makaton in Early years settings is an amazing skill to learn. 📖

The use of BSL is also a great opportunity for all to use the Language to help Support others around us who may be Hard of hearing or even in use of supporting Communication and Language development for those who may not have the ability to express their needs through spoken words.

I have taken up learning BSL independently using online courses and apps to help me grow my knowledge of the language and to help others too! I am still very new to learning so im a little shakey but i hope we can take this learning journey together❤️

I hope you all will join me on the adventure at the beginning of each month to learn a new sign to use in our everyday life❤️

👀 SNEAK PEEK of tomorrow's provocation activities! 👀

Look out for future videos and posts explaining the "why" behind our approaches!

❓️ What are provocation activities, and why do we use them? – (in less than 1000 words!)

Young children need support to develop their wonderful imaginations. 🌟🤔💭

🧸 The simplest of setups can provoke a child’s interest and does not need to look like a Pinterest post to be effective! Just a few simple resources can have endless possibilities and avenues of learning.

🪄 The real magic comes from within their little brains and the interactions and possible learning opportunities the provocations provide.

🗨 They spark conversations with adults and peers, allow children to draw from their own experiences and learn from watching and listening to others.

Capturing their little minds is key and basing activities on their growing interests is always the way to go. New ideas and concepts are best learned with a familiar-feeling background. 😍

Coming together with friends to play some quick games is one of the favourite times of day for our little Sunflowers!

🏠 PLAY AT HOME TOO - Here they were playing a memory game where Mia showed them some objects, covered them with a blanket and then took one away for them to identify.

A simple game but with lots of great learning opportunities woven in. 🥰

The best way to teach your children about a solar eclipse?! 🙊

Lots of us remember where we watched the 1999 event, let's give those memories to the children tonight. Take pictures for them to treasure.

If you are watching the eclipse with the family tonight, enjoy...the next time to experience a total eclipse is in 2090!

Remember the potatoes the children planted a few months ago?

Well, they have been picked, cooked and eaten!

The children have gotten so much enjoyment out of watching them grow and a sense of achievement when they could eat what they had produced.

Watch out for the tomatoes and herbs next!

‘What do we get for our consumables charge?’

One of the many things this charge funds is outings in the mini bus. Giving the children different experiences and a change of scenery!

Last week the children went to Pets at Home to look at the things they sell for pets. They even saw some guinea pigs and fish too! 🐟🐠🐹🐹

MAKE IT MONDAY!

A simple activity for all ages - ice painting.

All you need is an ice cube tray, lolly sticks and food colouring to have lots of fun.

Paint on paper or take it outside in a shady spot.

TOP TIP: For outdoor ice fun, make larger ice blocks so they last longer!

All our Summer events are FREE entry, with no booking required - just turn up on the day and prepare to have fun!

Can't make any of the event days? Don't worry!
During the week (Monday to Friday, July 27th to August 28th), there will be other activities and crafts about the museum for you to get involved with! 🙌
