I’m no teacher, once wanted to be then realised how hard that is!

I’m just a parent, trying to keep the children’s’ skills going through summer against screens, the meta verse, phones, blah blah blah!

A few crazy ideas.

Cereal boxes became holiday work boxes. Ages 8, 11 and 13 (guess who didn’t want to decorate a box!?)

Reading diary daily then individualised tasks each day. The horror story task worked for one day, then I overstepped the mark and asked him to expand a character. Queue neurodivergent closedown. Head on table writing ‘kill me’ ‘no idea’.
Calm myself, regulate myself with help of hubster, check with older kids that I really did used to keep holiday diaries with them. Realised it was too hard so now he has choices of writing based on info from his reading or other things I think of as we go along (list the furniture in your room)

If all else fails, send wine!

It was a funny summer!

Two years ago, covid changed my childminding summer to zero. But family changes also started to make their mark.

This year was the first time in 11years I didn’t think of summer holiday outings other than family outings.

I genuinely have missed it so much. I made sure family had activities but now I have this ongoing dread of my forthcoming Halloween and Christmas not as a childminder!

I don’t want more children sending just in case you try to help! But I do miss the planning.
