In both our Nursery and Preschool rooms, children take part in Concept Cat. Concept Cat is a research-informed programme that helps children learn important early concept words while developing their thinking and language skills.
Each week we focus on a carefully chosen concept word such as “through,” “big,” or “last.” The word is introduced through a special story and our soft Concept Cat, who helps bring the meaning of the word to life for the children.
On Wednesdays, our Cheeky Picky Puppet makes a surprise appearance. Cheeky Picky loves to “eat” objects that represent our focus word. For example, this week he gobbled up all of our “new” books, which made the children laugh while helping them understand the concept in a fun and memorable way.
Our parents really enjoy joining in too. Each week we share a family task, and it is always lovely to receive photos of the children practising the concept word at home. We use these together on Fridays to review and celebrate the word we have learned.
The real magic of Concept Cat happens during the children’s play. Through carefully planned experiences, we encourage children to use their new words in meaningful ways. It is wonderful to see how quickly they begin to understand the concept and confidently use the word in their conversations and play.

The government have rolled out more childcare options in line with their Best start in life program.
đź’›Universal 15- Every 3 year old child is entitled to 15 hours free childcare. This begins the term after their 3rd birthday.
đź’›30 hours working entitilement- This has now been rolled out for 9 months olds up to Nursery aged children (3-4 year olds). This entitlement is offered for 38 weeks of the year and is for working parents who work at least 16 hours per week.
đź’›15 hours Early Learning childcare for 2 year olds- families within certain criteria can receive 15 hours funded childcare for their child the term after their 2nd birthday. The criteria includes for example, those in receipt of income support, looked after children and those in receipt of disability allowance.
đź’›Tax free childcare- for every ÂŁ8 you pay into a special childcare account, the government will add ÂŁ2. This is for children under 12 and both parents (if applicable) must work.
đź’›Universal Credit- those in receipt of universal credit can claim back up to 85 % of their childcare costs when reported into their online account.

Wednesday's 9-10am in Redbrook Hayes school hall, term time only.
A small donation of 50p to cover a drink (adult) and toast for the little ones.
