Inc approx 50 schools in Rugby area Welcome to Harris CofE Academy School Sports Partnership.

The SSP is hosted by Harris Church of England Academy and encompasses 6 secondary schools, 1 special school, 20 primary schools, 6 juniors schools, 9 infant schools as well as 4 independent schools across the Rugby area. It was established in 2004 as part of the previous Labour government's initiative which recognised the need to invest in high quality P.E and school sport for young people. The po

sitive impact that sport can have on young people's lives is well documented. Physical activity not only supports long term health but enables children and young people to perform better at school. In the Warwickshire Quality of Life Survey, Rugby had high levels of obesity compared to other areas of the county. The long term cost to health of physical inactivity is significant, with the cost to Warwickshire PCT having been calculated at over £7 million per annum, a higher cost per head than Solihull and even Coventry. It is vital that children have a positive experience of physical education at school to ensure a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation. It is virtually impossible to find a 4 year old who is not enthused by physical activity - this inactivity is learned behaviour influenced by family attitudes, peers and also significanlty school based experiences. Current Context

In October 2010, as part of it comprehensive spending review, the government announced that the ring-fenced centralised funding for the School Sports Partnerships (SSPs) was to be removed with the Department of Education stating that SSP's are "being entrusted to schools who can decide whether and how to use them in the future". Schools are now able to make choices on how they use the funding which will be included in their budget. The consultation which took place with headteachers, subject leaders, primay link teachers and physical education advisors showed that the network is very much valued and there is a strong desire to retain the structure. Retaining the infrastructure also allows investment to be levered into physical activity and sport from Government departments and national governig bodies of sport. The Future

In such difficult economic times it is imperative that we maximise impact and front line services for young people but ensure efficiency savings are made and provide best value for all partners. The Core Subscription Offers that we have put together are based on the consultation and feedback received from our local partners. It is a time of change for the Partnership, ensuring that the focus is on meeting local need rather than national priorities.

Rugby Borough U12 Girls Trials – September 2026

As girls make the exciting move from primary school to Year 7, many won’t know which secondary school they’ll be attending until later in the summer. We want to give everyone the opportunity to settle into their new school and, where possible, work alongside local secondary schools before holding our trials.

For that reason, our U12 Girls trials will now take place in September.

⚽ Open to all girls starting Year 7 in September 2026.
