Congratulations to the winners of the Victorian Chemical Engineering Student Excellence Prize! 🎉

Undergraduate and postgraduate students from Victorian universities were challenged to propose a textile recycling solution aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #12: Responsible Consumption and Production, which focuses on reducing waste, increasing recycling, and using resources more efficiently.

Congratulations to our winners:

🏆 Anniza Augusty (RMIT University)
Awarded for clearly mapping the journey of clothing from collection through to recycling.

🏆 Eleanor Ragg (University of Melbourne)
Recognised for her strong technical breadth, identifying multiple textile recycling pathways and technology solutions.

🏆 Luke Wang (Monash University)
Recognised for his detailed explanation of the chemistry behind enzymatic fibre separation and his two-sided approach addressing both supply and demand.

The competition helps students develop an ethical professional identity while fostering early engagement with industry and professional bodies.

🌟Student Summit and Industry Night – That’s a wrap!🌟

More than 70 students connected with industry professionals, process safety experts and academic leaders for an evening of insight, conversation and networking.

From honest discussions on career pathways and industry expectations to exploring the skills needed for the future, the event highlighted the value of early professional networking.
Creating strong links between students and industry helps inform career decisions, accelerates career readiness, and opens doors to future opportunities.

As Irene Lock Sow Mei (Senior Process Engineer, Petronas) shared: “The future chemical engineer will not be defined by what they know, but by how they communicate, how they adapt, and how relentlessly they continue to learn.”

Ng Lik Yin, (Senior Lecturer, Sunway University) added: “Study hard to get the answers but talk to people to find the opportunities.”

Events like these play a vital role in bridging academic learning with real-world experience.

👩‍🎓🌏A fantastic day connecting with future chemical engineers at the Study Melbourne International Student Careers Fair.

IChemE was pleased to meet so many motivated international students and graduates. The event provided an opportunity to discuss career pathways, professional development, and how IChemE supports students in building employability and industry connections, as well as the many initiatives designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed for future careers in chemical engineering.

A highlight of the day was hearing from The Hon. Danny Pearson, Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs, who emphasised the vital role international students play in Victoria’s workforce through their skills, diversity and multilingual strengths.

👏Thank you to Study Melbourne for hosting such a great event - we look forward to supporting future initiatives like this.
