Crescent School The Crescent School is an Independent Preparatory Co-educational Day School for pupils aged 4 – 11

The Crescent is a thriving co-educational independent day school for around 160 children aged 4 to 11 years, based in Bilton, Rugby. Tailoring learning to individual needs, we support all our pupils to achieve great things in a happy and caring environment. A little school with big ambitions, our dedicated staff pride themselves on really knowing our pupils well and bringing out the very best in all of them. This philosophy applies in the classroom, on the sports field and in many extra-curricular pursuits, including music and drama. This breeds positivity and pupils achieve great things over the course of their Crescent school career. We specialise in preparing children for their first choice of senior school. Many continue on to Princethorpe College and we also enjoy a high degree of success in pupils gaining local grammar school places.

After a busy seven weeks, the end of the half term is upon us. Well done to all the children for all your hard work and especially for following our Crescent Promise. As part of the wind down to the break, today has been a non uniform day with the children raising money for Myton Hospice, the charity chosen by our School Council for this term.
We wish all our Crescent children and families a very happy half term break and we look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday 2 November.

Harvest Festival at Crescent School is always a special occasion, bringing together pupils, staff and families to celebrate, reflect and give thanks. Each year, the school hall is filled with music, songs, prayers and readings that give thanks for the harvest, share the traditions of the festival, and the importance of community, kindness and supporting those in need.
This morning, it was the turn of Years 5 and 6 to share their Harvest celebration with parents. The children took us on a journey around the world, exploring different Harvest traditions while delivering thoughtful reflections, poems and prayers. Year 5 and Year 6 sang beautifully, both individually and together, while the Choir delighted the audience with a wonderful performance of 'Harvest Tango'.
Year 5 led the prayers of intercession with great thoughtfulness, before Mr Aston delivered his Harvest Address. Assisted by our Year 6 ‘combine harvesters’ and ‘trailers’, he reminded us that within the word Harvest we can find the words Have, Heart, Share and Starve - a powerful message about thankfulness, compassion and helping others.
The service concluded with families, pupils and staff joining together in a rousing rendition of 'Sing Of The Lord's Goodness', bringing a fitting end to a meaningful celebration.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our Harvest Festival. We look forward to delivering the generous donations collected to Rugby Foodbank during the half-term break.

Crescent School’s Green Team welcomed Heather Thomas from Garden Organic and Rugby Community Champions to school this morning. Heather visited the school to present the Green Team with a prize after the school was recognised in its Great Big Green Week Nature Champions Competition earlier this year.
During the visit, Heather met with Mrs Dowling, Forest School Lead, and members of the Green Team to discuss sustainability, organic composting and Garden Organic's specialised seed heritage library, which contains more than 800 seed varieties. She presented the school with seeds, bulbs, plants, organic compost and a large planter to support future growing projects.
Garden Organic is working in partnership with Rugby Borough Council to encourage local people to engage in organic gardening, whether in community gardens, allotments or their own growing spaces.
The award recognises the significant work undertaken by the Green Team over the past year as part of the school's Eco Schools challenge and specifically the work undertaken to increase biodiversity across the school grounds. Pupils created a bug hotel and mini pond, redesigned the pollinator bed, installed bird and hedgehog boxes, planted in Forest School and the wider school grounds, and introduced wildlife walkways along site boundaries. They are now planning to add bat boxes to further support local wildlife.
The Green Team also hosted a successful community plant, produce and seed swap event in June, helping to spread their message of sustainability beyond the school gates.
Well done to the Green Team, it’s fantastic to see pupils’ hard work being recognised in this way.

Last week, some of our youngest mathematicians were practising writing numbers as words, building their confidence with number recognition, spelling and handwriting all at the same time. Paddington was a great help (as he has been since the start of term) encouraging everyone as they came into class each morning, to grab a whiteboard and get writing. From one and two to larger numbers, the children were proud to show their understanding. Well done, Year 1, for your fantastic effort and concentration. Keep up the great work!

It was wonderful to see Head Pupil Feranmi spending time with our younger pupils today, supporting their learning using the iPads and hearing them read. His enthusiasm and encouragement made such a positive difference. A great example of one of our older pupils modelling our Crescent School Promise - Good Friends, Good Learners and Good Citizens!

Reception have been busy learning their colours in French! Last week, the children practised their vocabulary through a fun interactive activity, listening carefully to the French words and matching animals to the correct colours on the screen. They also enjoyed singing along to colourful French songs, helping to build their confidence and language skills in an enjoyable and engaging way. Bravo, Reception!

This morning, Year 5 were working on their French comprehension using the iPads to answers questions on a text. To start with, pupils worked together in small groups to answer the questions. They then progressed on to tackling the questions on their own. It was lovely to see their developing confidence. A great effort from everyone!
