Upper School Academic Scholars Trip to London

Today, our Upper School (Sixth Form) students travelled from Rugby to London for their Academic Scholars Trip. The group split into two, with one focusing on STEM and the other on Humanities.

The STEM-focused group visited the Science Museum before spending the afternoon at the Natural History Museum. Meanwhile, the Humanities-focused group enjoyed a guided tour of Tudor and Stuart London, followed by an afternoon at the iconic British Museum.

The trip forms part of Rugby School’s Academic Scholars and Enrichment Programme, providing students with opportunities to deepen their subject knowledge, broaden their perspectives and explore their academic interests beyond the classroom.

Ismael reaches Senior Final of BBC Young Chorister of the Year

Congratulations to Rugby School student Ismael, who has reached the Senior Final of the BBC Young Chorister of the Year 2026 competition.

Ismael joined Rugby School from SPCS as a Music Scholar, bringing with him a strong musical foundation and a passion for choral singing. Reaching the final of one of the UK’s most prestigious competitions for young singers is a significant achievement and reflects his dedication, talent and hard work.

Reflecting on his success, Ismael said:

“Getting to the final meant so much to me, having put so much time into my craft. Being at the semi-final was already a massive achievement to me, so being a step past it was something truly special, and will be an experience that stays with me my whole life.”

Tansy Castledine, our Director of Music, said:

“Reaching the Senior Final of the BBC Young Chorister of the Year 2026 is a tremendous achievement, and we are very pleased for Ismael. He is an exceptional singer, combining his musicality with expressive communication and technical skill. His performances consistently demonstrate maturity and a deep understanding of the choral tradition, and this recognition is richly deserved. We wish him every success in the final.”

The Rugby Way

A wonderful afternoon for members of the Rugby School computer science society, who were invited to Rugby Town Hall to meet the Mayor of Rugby following their success in the Astro Pi Mission competition, which saw their code run on the International Space Station.

Students had the opportunity to learn more about the Mayor’s role and discuss the importance of innovation, while sharing how they used Physics, Geometry and Mathematics to develop their projects and send code into space.

The visit included a tour of the Town Hall and the Mayor’s Parlour, followed by tea and cake before the students entered the debating chamber.

Thank you to the Mayor of Rugby for welcoming our students and celebrating this outstanding achievement.

Jonathan Reaches Final of BBC Young Chorister of the Year 2026!

Rugby School student Jonathan has reached the final of the BBC Junior Young Chorister of the Year 2026 competition following a successful performance in the semi-final.

Jonathan joined Rugby School from Bilton Grange Prep School , part of the Rugby School Group, in F Block (Year 9) as a Music Scholar. Before joining the School, he was a member of the Rugby Choristers programme at Bilton Grange, where he developed his vocal talent and passion for choral music.

Reflecting on his achievement, Jonathan said: “This experience was incredible because it allowed me to do what I love while meeting so many people along the way. Reaching the final means a great deal to me, as I have been auditioning for four years and have finally made it, not only into the competition but through to the final.

“When I found out I had reached the final, I was so happy. A few months ago, I had only auditioned and never imagined I would come this far.”

Tansy Castledine, Director of Music, said: “We are thrilled that Jonathan has reached the Junior Final of the BBC Songs of Praise Young Chorister of the Year 2026 competition. This is a wonderful achievement and recognition of his talent, musicality and dedication.

“Having developed through the Rugby Choristers programme at Bilton Grange and now flourishing as a Music Scholar at Rugby School, Jonathan has demonstrated exceptional commitment to his singing. We are immensely proud of him and wish him every success in the final.”

Friday Night Lights at Butts Park

On Friday evening, our XV rugby team took on Stowe under the lights at Butts Park Arena in a closely contested fixture.

The team produced a committed performance but were narrowly beaten by a strong Stowe side.

Meanwhile, away at Stowe, the girls’ XI hockey team delivered an impressive display to secure a well-earned 3-1 victory.

Today, our Textile students in LXX and XX welcomed visiting artist Emily Stirk for a one-day workshop exploring creative approaches to knitting.

Throughout the day, students learned a range of techniques from Emily, experimenting with different materials to create patterns and textures that could be incorporated into garment design. Their work drew inspiration from designers such as Vivienne Westwood.

Rugbeian Amelie B (D 21-26) has been selected for the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup squad for the tournament in Nepal and Bangladesh in 2027.

During her time at the School, Amelie was a prominent member of the Girls’ XI and served as Captain in her final year. She currently represents Essex and, when interviewed earlier this year, spoke of her ambition to earn international selection. That goal has now become a reality with her inclusion in the squad.

We congratulate Amelie on this outstanding achievement and wish her every success as she prepares to represent England in 2027!
