After a busy seven weeks we have arrived at half term. As part of the wind down to the break, today has been Princethorpe's annual 'Pink Day', when the Sixth Form Centre turns pink as students rise to the challenge of for breast cancer awareness month. For the rest of the College, Friday 16 October has been a non-uniform day, a relaxing end to a busy half term with pupils donating a small amount of cash to support the Sixth Form's fundraising efforts.
We wish the History trip to Vietnam, the Holland Hopbel Hockey Tour, the Eltham College Rugby Festival Trip and the South Coast Sports Tour bon voyage as they head off on their adventures. We will see everyone back in school on Monday 2 November.

Heat 2 of this year's FutureChef competition saw pupils from Years 7, 9, 10 and 11 taking on the challenge of preparing a main course in just 60 minutes.
Once again, the standard was exceptionally high, with competitors demonstrating an impressive range of culinary techniques. From creating sauces and flambéing to making fresh pasta from scratch, the skills on display would not have looked out of place in a professional kitchen. Pupils showcased their ability to season, reduce, roast and stir-fry with confidence, creativity and precision.
Our judging panel, made up of Mr Spencer, Mr Cowlishaw, Mr Phillips and Ms Scott, had the difficult task of selecting their favourite dishes considering composition, techniques, taste. creativity and presentation. They thoroughly enjoyed sampling a variety of delicious meals, including perfectly cooked steak dishes, flavour-packed curries and creamy carbonaras.
Every competitor earned a Da Vinci Merit in recognition of their hard work, creativity and outstanding culinary skills.
Following half term, Ms Scott will announce the winners and reveal which two pupils have secured a place in the next round of the competition, that will take place at Edgbaston in early December.
Congratulations to all of the competitors for their fantastic efforts and superb dishes.
Here are just a few photos of the mouth-watering creations!

Fr Teddy O'Brien first came to Princethorpe in the 1970s as a Maths teacher and Director of Boarding, supporting generations of pupils through their school years.

More than 50 years later, he remains a familiar and much-loved part of the Princethorpe community.

As we celebrate our Diamond Jubilee, Fr Teddy reflects on the friendships, sense of belonging and opportunities that have shaped generations of Princethorpians.

Fr Teddy is now asking our Princethorpe family to help give more young people those same opportunities. Through our 60 Futures Appeal, we hope to open the door to a Princethorpe education for pupils who might otherwise never have that chance.

If Princethorpe has played a part in your life, please consider making a gift, however small, to help change someone else's.

The first heat of this year's FutureChef competition saw pupils from Years 7 and 8 take on the challenge of preparing a main meal in just 60 minutes. The standard was incredibly high, with competitors showcasing an impressive range of culinary skills, from pasta making and flavour balancing to marinating and preparing beautifully presented dishes.
Our judges, Mr du Toit, Mr Spencer and guest judge Old Princethorpian Laura Brazier, faced the difficult task of selecting their favourites from a delicious menu that included carbonara, curries, and a variety of chicken dishes.
Heat 2 takes place tomorrow evening, after which Ms Scott will have the even tougher challenge of deciding who will represent the College in the next round. One thing is certain though - every pupil who took part earned themselves a well-deserved da Vinci Merit for their effort, creativity and skill. Here are just a few photos of the tasty dishes!

Despite grey skies and drizzle, 53 Year 10 GCSE Geography pupils enjoyed a successful fieldwork trip to Carding Mill Valley, Shropshire, this week. Accompanied by Mrs Baker, Mr Dear, Mr Robertson, Mr Taylor and Ms Bergerat, pupils studied downstream changes in river characteristics to fulfil the Physical Geography fieldwork element of their GCSE course.
They measured river depth, width, velocity, and the size and shape of the river's bed load at various points along the channel, gaining valuable first-hand experience of essential fieldwork techniques. Although river levels were unusually low following the summer heatwave, pupils approached the day with enthusiasm and resilience, making the most of the learning opportunity.
The knowledge and skills developed during the trip will enable pupils to answer challenging questions about their fieldwork studies in their final IGCSE exams.

At the end of September, our A-level Politics and Law students enjoyed an enriching educational visit to the Houses of Parliament and the UK Supreme Court.
Their day began with a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster, where students explored its historic halls, political chambers and ceremonial spaces. Highlights included visits to the Commons Terrace and the House of Commons Library, spaces visitors don’t usually get to see. Their guide, a former civil servant who had spent 20 years working in the Whips’ Office, provided a fascinating behind-the-scenes insight into the workings of government and parliamentary life.
The Sixth Formers also had the opportunity to meet John Slinger Labour MP, the Member of Parliament for Rugby, where many of the students live. Mr Slinger spoke about the role and responsibilities of an MP before answering a range of topical questions linked to the students’ studies. The visit also included a hands-on educational workshop, helping to bring their classroom learning to life.
The group then took part in a walking tour of Westminster and Whitehall before making their way to Middlesex Guildhall, home of the UK Supreme Court, where they learned more about the country's highest court and the judicial system.
Many thanks to Mr Lyttle for organising this memorable trip, as well as the recent Year 8 Civil War Day. Both events provided engaging and informative opportunities for pupils to develop their understanding outside the classroom.
