Why I love my tutoring groups 💜

Two minutes of me rambling about how much I love group tuition… I did try to cut it down! 🤣

But I do REALLY LOVE group tuition. Many parents come to me asking for 1:1 tuition but I honestly think group tuition can be even more beneficial particularly when it comes to children’s confidence and independence.

If you’re still unsure about small group tuition comment below 👇 and we can chat about all the other benefits!

This Sunday’s mock exam is officially sold out! 👏
I can’t quite believe it!
This is only my third 11+ mock exam and I never thought I’d get to a point where they’d be selling out in my first year.
These tests are a real labour of love from me. I create the entire paper from scratch myself (with some proofreading from my mum) and I’m so proud that they’ve been so successful.
I’m very much looking forward to the test on Sunday and meeting lots of wonderful, new students as well as many of my regular students from my tuition and previous mocks.

There are still places available for Exam 4 on 30th August so head to the link in bio to book your place now before they’re all gone!

We took our Year 4 11+ lesson online this afternoon to keep safe during the red weather warning! 🥵
It was great that all of my students were able to join in with the lesson while keeping cool at home. I was really impressed by their hard work and how quickly they adapt to new technology! 💻
This online group lesson was a first for HQ Learning and I'm so pleased at how well it went. It's great to know this is a back-up option for emergencies and maybe something I can do more of in the future.

'What gets measured gets improved.'

A phrase often quoted and misquoted in the business world. I've heard this phrase a few times recently and started to think about how this relates not to my business, but to my students.

Teachers and parents can often be reluctant to talk about data with children. We might worry that it will impact their confidence, cause anxiety or lead to unnecessary comparison. However, the students I see making the most progress are the ones who know how they're doing. This awareness of test scores is actually very empowering and gives students something to work towards. After all, if we're not measuring, we can't see the improvement.

I'd love to know your thoughts on this, whether you're a parent, or teacher or both. How do you feel about discussing test scores and other data with your children? Drop your thoughts, comments and concerns below 👇

🚨 11+ VOCABULARY CHECK🎓

This week’s word is: INCREDULOUS (adjective).

It means unwilling or unable to believe something.

It’s a great way to describe a character’s reaction to a surprising plot twist or maybe the look on your child’s face when you ask them to tidy their bedroom or get out those 11+ practice books again!

Comment below what’s caused your child to have an incredulous look on their face this week 🤣

11+ Exam Technique Tip #2 Start ready

Starting ready means being sat upright in your chair, holding your pencil in your hand, checking the clock or timer and feeling ready to go.

Why does starting ready matter?

Every single second counts in the 11+! You don't want to waste valuable time finding your pencil or looking for the right page.

Plus, sitting up straight with your pencil in your hand sends a signal to your brain that you are controlled, prepared and about to do something you'll be proud of.

When I see my students ready to go at the start of a test or set a practice questions, I know they're about to do a great job. Similarly, if they're slouched in their seat with their pencil nowhere to be seen, I know their work might not be their best.

Does your child have a checklist or ritual to get them in the zone before a test?

Comment yours below and follow for more 11+ exam tips.

⭐ Mock Exam Review⭐

Mock tests are an essential part of 11+ preparation, but they shouldn't leave children feeling anxious or overwhelmed. That’s why reading this feedback from a local Rugby parent means the world to me!

The formal exam environment can be incredibly daunting for a primary school student. If their first experience of a timed paper is stressful, it can really knock their confidence.

My goal for our mock tests in Rugby is to mirror the exact format of the Warwickshire 11+ exams, but deliver it in a calm, clear, and reassuring way. When a child understands exactly what to expect and feels comfortable in the room, they are free to focus and do their absolute best.

A huge well done to this student for tackling his test so brilliantly, and thank you to his family for sharing their experience! 🤍

🚀 WANT TO HELP YOUR CHILD FEEL EXAM-READY?
If you want your child to practice their exam technique, manage their time, and build genuine confidence in a supportive, stress-free environment, our mock test sessions can help.

📩 Send me a direct message or visit www.hqlearningrugby.com to see upcoming mock test dates and secure a slot.
