My classes are friendly and focused. Students are incredibly supportive of one another; when solving a problem, they bounce off each other, working it out as a team.
Here, in one of my Year 4 classes, one student was happy to work independently and with me, whilst the others were comparing answers and trying to work out, and then fix, where little errors had been made.
Lessons are personalised: I learn where each child is at across the 4 disciplines and tailor their individual learning according to where they need challenging or supporting.

At Capture That Grade, our 11+ lessons are at a pace to suit your individual child.
No child is left waiting to learn, instead lessons are fully differentiated and personalised; your child will be fully challenged in the areas they are confident in and supported to progress in the aspects that they find more difficult.
This week, I had a student who needed more support following the homework, students who needed scaffolding to truly see what was being asked of them and others who were able to fully explain what was asked of them and could create their own question types.
I love how students readily share their answers, even when they at the early part of learning a topic / not yet fully confident. Students will happily share their steps to working out an answer, and often, when a misstep is made, another student steps in and offers support, helping the original student find the answer that they were already close to.

At Capture That Grade we do not believe that a computer program is good enough to teach your child. A computer will not encourage you like a qualified teacher, it will not give you true personalised feedback, and the learning will not be tailored minute by minute in the same way a tutor can react.

A computer programme does not pick up on your child’s emotions: it is important to utilise human connection. A tutor can, together with the child, really recognise successes and provide support in the areas needed to improve.

Our classes, where students support one another, are also a key part of how we feel children learn best. Our students form a community where they can each feel proud of themselves, and others, as improvements are made.

Why do we start with children in Year 4?
The 11+ takes places at the beginning of Year 6.
Students are tested in 4 areas: English, maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning.
We feel that to ensure our students reach their highest potential, that we give them enough time for this to be a comfortable, fun and productive experience.
The aim is for your child to score highly in the eleven plus and to take their learning across these four areas with them through their school journey and later life.
Students gain familiarity, practice and then become expert in the four disciplines and the branches within them.
September’s new Year 4 cohort is filling.

This week, Year 4 used mirrors to support their understanding of reflection (in the break, this soon became making mirror mazes).
Students worked on transferring their understanding of complete the series questions (finding the missing image) to a new question type: complete the grid.
Here, students need to work out the sequence / find the pattern by looking for parts of the image that have been reflected, rotated, increased, decreased or alternated - it can even be all of these at once. The row could move along or you may be expected to see the grid as one big picture. Students have to be alert to working out all of the changes that are happening, in order to find the answer.
11+ lessons begin in Year 4.

All of our 11+ lessons are planned and taught by Leanne Buckley. We never use substitute teachers or non teachers. Leanne gained a First-Class Honours Degree in History from the University of Leicester and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at Masters Level from the University of Warwick. She taught A Level and GCSE in 3 different secondary schools, including Ashlawn. After 11 years of teaching, in 2019, she set up Capture That Grade Ltd to specialise in exam preparation, content and strategy; supporting students in their assessments from Key Stage 1 to degree level. After seeing so many friends’ children have negative eleven plus prep experiences, Leanne decided to apply her expertise to 11+ classes.

I received yet another lot of flowers from this student from last year, as she was ecstatic to get confirmation of her place at grammar school this week (I still get to see her, as I now have her brother).

I feel like my 11+ students could give this a good shot. Age 9 & not far off being able to answer University of Oxford admissions questions thanks to eleven plus learning 🩵

It’s a past question from Section 1 of the Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA).

Candidates have 90 minutes to answer around 50 multiple-choice questions, that's roughly two minutes per question.

When you have a new student and you print off the work that your other students have completed in the 7 lessons they have already had, and you realise just how much they cover. These pages are double sided and I haven’t even included the 50 question Maths assessment with feedback!
