Rugby Taekwon-do Academy Rugby TKD is a Taekwon-do school teaching ITF Taekwon-do and self-defence.

Rugby Taekwon-Do Academy is a martial arts school set up by husband and wife team, Darren and Sue Johnson in 2021. Darren is a 4th Degree Black Belt who started teaching in Kent in 2013, is passionate about Taekwon-Do, and believes everyone should be given the opportunity to learn the valuable life skills the "art" has to offer. Sue has always supported Darren in his TKD journey and continues to d

o so by making use of her very own "black belt" in administrative skills...!! The Taekwon-Do class (6yrs old to never too old!) follows the International Taekwon-Do Federation curriculum designed to increase strength; fitness; flexibility; sharpen focus; improve self-confidence; reduce stress and tension, all whilst learning practical self-defence. Classes are held at The Science Studio, Lawrence Sheriff School, Whitehall Road, Rugby, (with plenty parking spaces!), on a Wednesday at 6.00pm and a Saturday at 10.00am.

Some of our younger students receiving their “Black Belt Attitude” award certificates and medals from Mr Stanley, recognising their determination to follow the tenets of TKD at home and at school, as well as in the dojang.

Dennis, Lily, Arthur and Lucas, have been working on their Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Indomitable Spirit and Self Control and the team at Rugby TKD, in conjunction with the students’ parents, wanted to reward their efforts.

Today, we honor the memory of General Choi Hong Hi (9 November 1918 – 15 June 2002), the Founder of Taekwon-Do.

With gratitude and respect, we remember the man who gave the world this martial art and whose legacy continues to inspire generations of practitioners worldwide.

As one Taekwon-Do family, we proudly carry his vision forward.

Happy Birthday to Taekwon-Do Name!

On 11 April 1955, General Choi Hong Hi officially decided on the name of his newly created martial art and called it Taekwon-Do.

Today, we celebrate not only the birth of a name, but the beginning of a global movement that continues to inspire millions around the world.
Let us all honor the legacy of General Choi Hong Hi by giving our very best in training, teaching, and living according to the principles of Taekwon-Do every single day.
Together, we carry forward the vision of our Founder and strengthen the unity of the worldwide ITF Family.

Celebrating 60 Years of the International Taekwon-Do Federation
 
On this occasion, marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (I.T.F.), we pay tribute to our legendary Founder, General Choi Hong Hi.
 
The 22nd of March 1966 ushered in a new era in Taekwon-Do with the establishment of the I.T.F., which developed rapidly into a global organization. Today, it unites a vast international community of Taekwon-Do practitioners across five continents.
 
In our days, the Federation founded by General Choi Hong Hi carries forward his work in direct institutional continuity, operating from the Headquarters in Vienna which he himself established and from which he actively led the development of Taekwon-Do.
 
May his legacy continue to inspire and guide people worldwide in their efforts to build a more peaceful world through the moral principles and foundations he left behind.
 
This year holds even greater significance as we also prepare for the 60th Anniversary ITF Summit in Vienna in November 2026, to be held in conjunction with the birthday of the Founder.
 
We warmly invite all members of the global Taekwon-Do family to take part in these meaningful celebrations. Do not miss the opportunity to pay tribute and visit the Headquarters that embodies the spirit of General Choi Hong Hi and his enduring vision.
