Yesterday I stood on the TEDx stage Yesterday I stepped onto the TEDx stage.
Not as an accountant.
Not as a coach.
But as someone who finally told the truth about something many of us quietly carry.
For years, I thought I was bad with money.
And like many people, I tried to fix it with what the world tells us to do:
more discipline, better strategies, smarter financial frameworks.
But something never changed.
During my talk I shared a story from my childhood that shaped my relationship with money in ways I didnāt understand for decades.
And after the talk something extraordinary happened.
Two women came up to me in tears.
They said, āYour story is my story.ā
And in that moment I realised something.
If a talk can touch the heart of even two peopleā¦
If it can help someone see their financial struggles through a new lensā¦
Then the purpose of that talk is fulfilled.
Because the truth is this:
Most people are not stuck with money because they lack information.
We live in a world full of advice, strategies, courses and financial frameworks.
People beat themselves up for not following them.
They think something is wrong with their discipline, their intelligence or their ability to act.
But often the real reason is much deeper.
Itās subconscious emotional loyalty.
Loyalty to old patterns.
Loyalty to roles we learned early in life.
Loyalty to the people and environments that shaped us.
Until that loyalty becomes conscious, the pattern keeps repeating again and again ā not to punish us, but to keep us where it once felt safe.
Yesterday wasnāt just a talk about money.
It was a conversation about the invisible forces behind our financial decisions.
And if even a few people walked away seeing their story differentlyā¦
Then stepping onto that red circle was worth every second.

Visited the assembly hall this week where I will be delivering a talk.
It felt smaller than imagined.
And bigger at the same time.
In a few weeks, be talking about at
Not budgets.
Not tips.
But the invisible lines we don't realise we're crossing when we earn, charge, spend or hold back.
Because are rarely about money.

Nearly a year mentoring on the .org.uk has taught me this:
Smart people donāt struggle with expenses because theyāre bad with money.
They struggle because no one explained it properly.
So on the 15th, Iām hosting a free masterclass for people registered on the platform:
Allowable expenses.
Clear. Simple. No bu****it.
If youāre at the start of your business journey and still guessing ā this oneās for you.

You can hire a bookkeeper, switch accountants, change software.
If you still avoid your numbers, undercharge, delay decisions or say yes when you mean no⦠nothing changes. The chaos just moves into a nicer spreadsheet.
Most money āproblemsā in business are behaviour problems.
Tools support your decisions.
They do not replace them.
This is the work I do with clients: we look at the behaviour behind the numbers so cashflow stops repeating the same story every year.
š If this hits a nerve, save this and come back to it next time you blame Xero or your accountant.

Most women donāt struggle with investing because they lack knowledge.
They struggle because theyāve never been taught how to feel safe with money.
Yesterday, at the From Zero to Financial Heroine event in the Algarve, I shared what I call Money Mindset Mastery ā not another āhow toā guide, but the why behind our financial behaviour.
We spoke about:
š The guilt, shame, and fear that quietly shape every money decision.
š How emotional loyalty keeps us small ā loyal to old family stories instead of our future.
šæ And how alignment with your true values changes everything ā because when money serves what you value most, you stop fighting it.
The conversations that followed ā during and after ā were honest, powerful, and beautifully human.
And yes, the lunch was absolutely worth mentioning too š
Thank you, WIN Portugal, for creating a space where women can talk about money without filters or fear.
Because when women master their money mindset, they donāt just invest, they rise. š
08/10/2025
Most women werenāt taught how to invest.
Not because we couldnāt ā but because we were raised to save, not grow.
To play it safe.
To stay āsensible.ā
To not make mistakes.
And while we stayed safe⦠we also stayed small.
The truth?
The emotional investing gap between women and men is still huge.
Men take risks, they start earlier ā not because they know more, but because they believe they deserve to.
Until you grow your deserving level
and raise your financial thermostat,
youāll keep holding yourself back ā even when youāre ready to rise.
Because investing isnāt just about money.
Itās about self-worth.
And the stories youāve been carrying about what youāre allowed to have.
So hereās the question I want you to ask yourself today š
š How much does your growth count for you?
This week on Friday, weāre bringing women together to talk about the things that truly move money: your emotions, your values, your power.
š« From Zero to Financial Heroine ā a workshop led by women, for women.

He came to me as a new self-employed client.
No background in finance, no clue about his own numbersāand honestly, no interest either.
Whenever I asked for payslips, invoices or any sort of paperwork, it was like pulling bloody teeth.
Iād get scraps of info, delayed replies, constant dodging.
When I asked him to check his bank statements and match payments to clients, he flat-out said, āI donāt have access.ā
Then ghosted me.
It gave me a headache.
But not because he was being difficult, because I recognised the pattern.
Avoidance.
Not laziness. Not incompetence.
Avoidance learned from fear, shame, confusion and never being taught the power of clarity.
And hereās the twistā¦
This behaviour doesnāt just show up in freelancers or the newly self-employed.
I see the exact same thing in people with six-figure businesses, teams, even offices.
Theyāve just got more polished ways of avoiding:
āMy bookkeeper handles that.ā
āIāll check with my finance person.ā
āI havenāt looked at that in a while.ā
Same story. Just dressed in a smarter suit.
Because if weāre honest, many business owners, no matter how big the income, still carry childhood baggage about money.
Still fear being āfound out.ā
Still donāt want to face what the numbers might reveal about their decisions.
So hereās the reflection:
* What exactly am I afraid Iāll see if I do look at my numbers?
* Who taught me that being disorganised or financially avoidant was somehow safer?
* Whatās the benefit Iāve been getting from not dealing with this? (There is one, even if itās just temporary peace.)
* What emotional story do I attach to money, numbers, or responsibility and who does that story really belong to?
You can scale your business.
But until you face the numbers, you havenāt truly stepped into leadership.
But once you see the value behind the void, the resistance starts to fade. And what once felt like pressure becomes power.

"People donāt decide their futures. They decide their habits. And their habits decide their futures."
F. M. Alexander said that.
Which is not wrong...somehow.
But hereās the truth most people donāt want to hear:
YOU DON'T EVEN CHOOSE MOST OF YOUR HABITS.
They were programmed.
By your past.
By the s**t you went through.
By how you survived, not how you thrived.
You didnāt wake up one day and decide to sabotage your money, your relationships, your goals.
You learned to.
From pain. From fear. From trying to be loved, accepted, safe.
You call it "just how I am."
But it's not.
Itās a set of coping mechanisms dressed up as personality.
And now?
Theyāre running your lifeāand calling it fate.
You keep setting new goals with the same wounded mindset.
Same beliefs.
Same emotional baggage stuffed in your back pocket.
And then you wonder why itās not working.
Itās not because youāre lazy.
Itās not because youāre not good enough.
Itās because you're trying to build a new future with an outdated emotional operating system.
Your future isnāt decided by your habits.
Itās decided by your subconscious.
And your subconscious is still obsessed with the past.
If you want different results, you donāt need more discipline.
You need a deep reset.
You need to reprogram the past so it stops ruling your damn future.
Thatās the work that changes lives.
And it starts with one question:
What are you still letting your past decide for you?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If youāre done letting your past run the showāand youāre ready to take back the wheelāmy Money M.O.T. session is where we start.
In 90 minutes weāll dig into the hidden patterns, the emotional baggage, the mindset blocks keeping you stuck with money (and everything itās tied to).

Be honest... are you running your money, or are your emotions about money running you?
You might not realise this, but the way you feel about money is probably controlling your life more than you'd like to admit.
- Maybe you're stuck in constant fear-of not having enough, of losing it, of failing financially. That fear? It's not irrational. It's from all the times in the past where things did fall apart.
-Or maybe you feel anxious even when money's coming in. Like no matter how much you earn, it still feels like it's not enough. That's a nervous system still stuck in survival.
- Maybe you feel guilty spending money on yourself... or ashamed of your debt, or like your past mistakes are tattooed on your forehead.
- And then there's that deep-rooted one-
when your self-worth depends on how much you've got. You feel 'enough only when your account says so.
- Or you're trapped in work that drains you because-well, bills. But let's not sugar-coat it: that's soul-crushing.
- And on the flip side, when you're riding high, you overspend, overcommit, say yes to things just because you're buzzing... and then crash hard with regret.
These aren't random behaviours.
They're symptoms of a deeper problem.
The truth is, money isn't the enemy.
It's neutral.
It's your beliefs, your values, your emotional past that's running the show.
And until you shift that, you'll keep repeating the same damn cycle.
That's what I do in my work- we look under the hood, clear out the emotional junk, and get your mindset aligned with your actual goals.
Ready to stop feeling powerless and start owning your money story?

makes you play too small.
makes you chase too much.
makes you think you already know it all.
isnāt about avoiding these emotionsāitās about recognising them, managing them, and making decisions from , not impulse.
So, which one of these is running your ?
And more importantly, are you ready to fire them?
