Awareness of eating disorders has increased significantly through annual campaigns and public education. However, awareness alone does not equate to improved outcomes. Greater and more strategic funding is urgently needed to support prevention, early intervention, research, and accessible, evidence-based treatment that delivers lasting impact.
27/02/2026
Every year, we raise awareness about eating disorders. Every year, more people continue to struggle, wait for support, or go without treatment. Awareness matters — but it doesn’t save lives on its own. People need access to real, funded care, early support, and long-term recovery services. We can, and must, do better. Any ideas what we can do?

For many years, raising awareness about eating disorders has been incredibly important to me. Over time, I’ve watched more people struggle, often feeling misunderstood or unsupported.
What stands out to me most is how many neurodivergent individuals are trying to access support that simply isn’t designed for them. Their experiences, sensory needs, and ways of communicating are often overlooked.
This year, I want to use my voice to encourage professionals to take a more person-centred approach — one that listens, adapts, and respects individuality. Everyone deserves support that truly understands them.

For several years, I have actively contributed to raising awareness surrounding eating disorders. Current evidence and lived experience indicate that these conditions are increasing in both prevalence and complexity.
This year, I aim to highlight the importance of adopting person-centred approaches when supporting neurodivergent individuals with eating disorders. Neurodivergence can significantly influence the presentation, maintenance, and recovery process of eating disorders.
Professionals must be equipped with appropriate training to understand sensory processing differences, communication styles, and individual needs. Moving away from standardised treatment models towards flexible, individualised care is essential for improving clinical outcomes and accessibility of support.

Eating disorder awareness is growing. So is demand for support.
The gap? Funding and access to care.
Real change happens when we move beyond awareness and invest in prevention, early support, and recovery-focused services with all professionals working in a neuroaffirmative way, therefore suppoting ALL sufferers. How can we make that happen?

For many years I have been very vocal about eating disorder awareness because I have seen how devastating they can be. Sadly, they are not only continuing — they are becoming more complex and more common.
This year, I want to highlight something that I feel needs far more attention. We urgently need more professionals to work in a truly person-centred way, especially when supporting neurodivergent individuals.
Eating disorders do not look the same for everyone. Neurodivergent individuals often face additional challenges such as sensory differences, communication barriers, and support that simply isn’t designed with them in mind. Too often, people are expected to fit into services instead of services adapting to the individual.
Understanding, compassion, and flexibility within support can change lives. Neurodivergent individuals deserve to feel heard, respected, and properly supported.

For years I’ve spoken openly about eating disorders because I’ve seen how devastating they can be.
The truth is… they are not getting better.
They are becoming more complex.
More common.
And too many people are still being misunderstood.
This year, I’m speaking up about something that needs urgent change 👇
Professionals must work in a truly person-centred way when supporting neurodivergent individuals.
Eating disorders do NOT look the same for everyone.
Neurodivergent individuals may experience:
✨ Sensory challenges
✨ Different communication needs
✨ Support that often isn’t built for them
Too often, people are expected to fit into services… instead of services adapting to the person.
Understanding. Compassion. Flexibility.
These things are not extras — they are essential.
Neurodivergent individuals deserve to feel heard, respected and properly supported

There isn’t always a dramatic breaking point.
Sometimes things just start costing more.
Noise. Decisions. People. Being “on”.
We’ve published a new blog post on aging and neurodivergence:“You’re not broken, you’re tired - aging, neurodivergence and burnout”
It’s about burnout that doesn’t come from doing too much, but from adapting for too long.
You can read it via the comments.

A little behind-the-scenes update from NEDDE Training.
It’s been a quieter period here on social media, but behind the scenes we’ve been busy.
We’re currently planning our training programme for the coming year and working on the production of new online courses. We’re also making some changes to the website to make it easier and more intuitive to use, so you can access courses, recordings and materials more smoothly and all in one place.
As always, our focus is on thoughtful, evidence-informed training that supports psychologists, psychiatrists, nutritionists, dietitians and other professionals working with complex, real-world presentations.
Because this training is for you, we’d also love to know: are there particular topics or areas you’d like us to cover in the year ahead?
We’re looking forward to teaching, learning and sharing more with you over the coming months. Thank you for being here.

A new year often arrives with a mix of hopes, plans and quiet wishes. For many people, it brings a moment of reflection - a brief pause before daily routines, responsibilities and commitments begin again.
As this new chapter starts, we wanted to reach out with our wishes for the year ahead. Whether you’re hoping for steadier days at work, more time for yourself, clearer boundaries, professional growth, or simply moments of calm in between everything else, we hope the coming months bring what you need most.
Many people in our community work in roles that involve supporting, guiding and caring for others. This kind of work takes skill, patience and presence, often in ways that aren’t always visible. For the year ahead, we wish you appreciation for what you do, balance in how you do it, and the space to keep learning and developing at a pace that feels sustainable.
We’re grateful to have such a thoughtful and engaged professional community around NEDDE Training. Your openness to learning, reflection and dialogue continues to shape the conversations we’re able to have together.
As the year unfolds, we look forward to continuing to learn alongside you and to sharing opportunities for growth, connection and development in the months ahead.
We wish you a positive, steady and meaningful year.
