Did you know that the free MenB vaccine is now available for eligible young people?

Two doses of the vaccine protects against MenB, a potentially life-threatening bacterial infection that can cause meningitis and sepsis.

Young people are at greater risk of it spreading, so it’s important that they get protected as soon as possible before starting college or university this autumn πŸ“š

Those who were born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008 or on or after 21 July 2001 and are starting university or certain further education colleges as a residential student this autumn, can book their vaccine by:
πŸ’» Going to the online NHS National Booking Service
πŸ“² Calling 119
πŸ‘©πŸ½β€βš•οΈ Finding a local participating pharmacy
πŸŽ’ Attending an on-campus NHS vaccination clinic

Find a link to book in the comments below.

We know that it's easy to fall into bad sleep habits when there's no school but ensuring good sleep will help you to enjoy the summer all the more so here are our top tips:

1. Keep a Consistent Sleep Schedule
Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. This helps regulate your body clock and improves the quality of your sleep.

2. Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine
Wind down with calming activities before bed. Reading a book, taking a warm bath, or listening to soothing music can help signal your body that it’s time to sleep.

3. Limit Screen Time Before Bed
Avoid screens (phones, tablets, TVs) at least an hour before bedtime. The blue light emitted by screens can interfere with your body’s production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep and the content can keep your brain engaged.

4. Stay Active During the Day
Exercise can help you fall asleep faster and enjoy deeper sleep, but try to avoid vigorous activity close to bedtime.

5. Watch What You Eat and Drink
Avoid large meals, caffeine, and sugar close to bedtime. Instead, opt for light, healthy snacks if you’re hungry before bed. Bananas, cherries, wholewheat cereals are a great choice.

6. Create a Comfortable Sleep Environment
Make sure your bedroom is cool, dark, and quiet. Use blackout curtains, earplugs, or white noise machines if necessary to create an ideal sleep environment.

7. Manage Stress and Anxiety
Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga. Keeping a journal to jot down your thoughts before bed can also help clear your mind.

8. Stay Hydrated
Drink enough water throughout the day, but avoid drinking large amounts right before bed to prevent waking up in the middle of the night.

9. Mindful Naps
Limit it to 20-30 minutes and try to nap earlier in the day to avoid interfering with your nighttime sleep.

10. Get Some Sunlight During the Day
Exposure to natural light helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle. Try to spend some time outside each day, especially in the morning.

The conversations you have today could help keep them safe tomorrow. πŸ’™

As teenagers spend more time around rivers, lakes, beaches and other open water during the summer holidays, it's important they understand the risks and know what to do in an emergency.

The 'Have The Conversation' Toolkit gives parents and carers simple prompts to start meaningful discussions about water safety and safer choices with friends.
