Wednesday afternoon, the babies had a very special visit from two terrapins Shelly and Teapot who are 15year old yellow belly sliders. The children were given the opportunity to see and touch the terrapins as they explored the turff tray set up for them and discovering just how quickly they could move.

For some of the children, the terrapins were unfamiliar, and they initially watched with curiosity from a distance. Through observing their peers, the children began to develop confidence and showed a growing willingness to touch and hold. This was a lovely example of children learning through curiosity.

The experience supported the children to become confident and involved learners, encouraging them to explore the unfamiliar, make choices and develop their understanding of the world around them. It also promoted wellbeing, as the children experienced excitement, wonder and pride as they overcame any uncertainty.

A huge thank you to Sharon for giving the children such a wonderful hands-on learning experience. 🐢

🚦 This month at Simoa, we are learning all about road safety, recognising some road signs and learning how to keep ourselves safe when out and about.

Whilst out on an outing this morning, we brought Simoa along in our backpack! As we walked to our destination, the children spotted lots of road signs and even a zebra crossing.

Brody spotted a road sign and said, “Circle means not good!” 👏

Can you identify and name any road signs in the community?

🌊🐚 Our new block of Seashore Scientists has begun!

For the next 5 weeks, Lucia, Ash, Callen, Edoardo, Gibby & Lexxie will be exploring our local seashore, making discoveries and learning about the world around us. 🔎

This week we explored our local beach, talked about safety boundaries, created a safety line in the sand, collected treasures, enjoyed mark making and used our senses to notice what we could see, hear and feel.

💬 Gibby – “Sea glass!”
💬 Ash – “Splash!”
💬 Lexxie – “There’s lots of shells!” 🐚
💬 Callen - “the big boat”
💬 Edoardo - “digging up”
💬 Lucia - “it’s a crab”

👨‍🍳MEET THE NEW THERMOMIX TEAM!👩‍🍳

We would love to know if you have some favourite recipes or food that we could make in the Thermomix. Let us know in the comments. 💡

What is the Thermomix? Thermomix is a kitchen appliance that has many useful functions for every type of baking and cooking. It can blend, stir, weigh ingredients, chop and has a heating function allowing you to cook food. In the past at 🍎Apple Tree we have made jam and bread 🥖for the
Hitch and Harvest. If you would like to know more follow this link to the Thermomix website https://www.vorwerk.com/gb/en.

Having the Thermomix allows the children to learn about food and how easy it is to bake their favourites from scratch. They also learn what it means to have a balanced diet. This follows the 'Setting the Table' framework we support at Apple Tree:
"3.1 A healthy balanced diet. Children aged from 1 to 5 years need the right amount of food and nutrients to develop and grow. A healthy diet is one that provides enough energy and the right balance of important nutrients"

On Wednesday morning the first group of ELC began their 5 week journey of forest schools.
The morning began with an introduction to the forest and planning out the next weeks at the forest. “We can light a fire using the flint and steel” said Vinnie 🔥 , agreed by Ada who is excited about the idea of “my favourite tomato soup on the fire” 🍅 “I want to see the bugs” said Sphé 🐜 with Layla suggesting “we find worms for my daddy to eat” 🪱. The plans developed as we set off on our adventure up the forest led by Cairn to “find the gruffalo” 🐻. Where Fraser spotted a den and is now keen to create “my own den” 🌳.
We came across some challenges of rivers and swamps but “we can’t go over it, we can’t go under it…we are going to have to go through it” was our motto 💦
