Our Piano Festival Composition Workshops have started with composer, Jenny Jackson at Winterhill School and Swinton Academy! 🎹🌟

GCSE and BTech students are working to prepare for performances of their compositions at our Piano Festival in March next year.

Composer Tom Owen will be delivering workshops at Oakwood High School, Dinnington High and Thomas Rotherham College in the coming weeks.

We can’t wait to hear what amazing music emerges. ❤🎶

Wow... what a weekend! 🤩🎶

A huge thank you to everyone who visited us at The Rotherham Show. Our Music & Making Marquee was buzzing with Mini Melodies sessions, DJ workshops, and plenty of drum & shaker making fun throughout the weekend.

Meanwhile, our Signals Stage had its busiest year yet, packed with incredible performances from talented bands and electronic artists from across Rotherham and South Yorkshire.

Working alongside Truth Engagement and Electronic Music Club, it was such a joy to see performers we've worked with over the last four years taking to the stage with confidence, while welcoming the next generation of artists just starting out.

We would like to thank all of the brilliant bands and artists who performed with us over the weekend, you continue to inspire us with your energy, enthusiasm and ability. Also to all the parents out there supporting your children in their musical life, thank you!

An unforgettable celebration of music, creativity, and community. Together, we made yet more amazing memories!❤️✨

Cultural Development Team

Rotherham Council is launching a bold new Cultural Development Team within Culture, Sport and Tourism. This team will work across Museums, Major Events, Sports Development, Parks and Green Spaces, Libraries, Rotherham Civic Theatre and Rotherham Music to deliver ambitious, inclusive and transformative cultural programmes.

Culture is everywhere in Rotherham — in schools, parks, libraries, theatres, community centres and neighbourhoods. The Cultural Development Team will help shape a cultural system that is vibrant, connected and proudly Rotherham.

Two weeks ago today, we opened our 'Why Music Matters' exhibition to the public. 🎭

It was fantastic and truly humbling to hear what visitors had to say about the effect music has had on their lives and communities. 🎶

So, we thought we'd share some of the comments visitors to the exhibition left for us. 🌟

A huge thank you to ROAR (Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance) for allowing us to use the Garage Gallery space.

Thank you so much for your continued support of not only Rotherham Music, but all of the incredible organisations working to bring opportunities for arts and culture to thrive in Rotherham. Without you, we couldn't have achieved half of what we have in the last four years. Once again, thank you, we hope you'll look forward to what we'll do next, because we're a long way from being done! ❤️

Why Music Matters: Rotherham’s young people showcase the power of music in this new exhibition!🎭

Young people from across Rotherham are sharing their stories through a new exhibition celebrating the impact music has had on their lives.🎶

Why Music Matters is currently on at ROAR’s Grove Road Garage Gallery from 18-28th July and brings together artwork, photography, film, sound, and music created through a range of youth music projects across the borough.🎤

The exhibition highlights how music has helped young people build confidence, develop new skills, express themselves creatively and connect with their communities.✨

You will be able to explore work created by projects including Signals Festival, Rotherham Battle of the Bands and Tales Untapped: A Rotherham Opera, alongside personal reflections from the young people involved.🌈

The exhibition follows Rotherham’s year as the world’s first Children’s Capital of Culture and showcases the creativity and talent that has been nurtured through music and cultural opportunities across the borough.❤️

“Why Music Matters celebrates the creativity, talent and achievements of young people across Rotherham. The exhibition shows the difference music can make in helping young people grow in confidence, develop new skills and find their voice, while sharing some incredible creative work with the wider public.”

We are extremely saddened to learn of the recent passing of Dan Towriss.

Dan was a regular performer at many of our Pop Up & Play events. Always a bright and engaging talent, and an extremely skilled performer who brought a great energy and presence to any venue he performed at. Dan was truly a great example of a hard working young musician, and he will be sorely missed.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
