Two weeks ago today, we opened our 'Why Music Matters' exhibition to the public. 🎭

It was fantastic and truly humbling to hear what visitors had to say about the effect music has had on their lives and communities. 🎶

So, we thought we'd share some of the comments visitors to the exhibition left for us. 🌟

A huge thank you to ROAR (Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance) for allowing us to use the Garage Gallery space.

Thank you so much for your continued support of not only Rotherham Music, but all of the incredible organisations working to bring opportunities for arts and culture to thrive in Rotherham. Without you, we couldn't have achieved half of what we have in the last four years. Once again, thank you, we hope you'll look forward to what we'll do next, because we're a long way from being done! ❤️

Why Music Matters: Rotherham’s young people showcase the power of music in this new exhibition!🎭

Young people from across Rotherham are sharing their stories through a new exhibition celebrating the impact music has had on their lives.🎶

Why Music Matters is currently on at ROAR’s Grove Road Garage Gallery from 18-28th July and brings together artwork, photography, film, sound, and music created through a range of youth music projects across the borough.🎤

The exhibition highlights how music has helped young people build confidence, develop new skills, express themselves creatively and connect with their communities.✨

You will be able to explore work created by projects including Signals Festival, Rotherham Battle of the Bands and Tales Untapped: A Rotherham Opera, alongside personal reflections from the young people involved.🌈

The exhibition follows Rotherham’s year as the world’s first Children’s Capital of Culture and showcases the creativity and talent that has been nurtured through music and cultural opportunities across the borough.❤️

Free make and Shake sessions are back this summer!

From 11th-14th August bring your little ones and join us at libraries across Rotherham for some fun craft and music based workshops, alongside taster sessions for Mini Melodies.

Mini Melodies

We are extremely saddened to learn of the recent passing of Dan Towriss.

Dan was a regular performer at many of our Pop Up & Play events. Always a bright and engaging talent, and an extremely skilled performer who brought a great energy and presence to any venue he performed at. Dan was truly a great example of a hard working young musician, and he will be sorely missed.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

The School year is almost over, but it's not too early to think about trying something new in September! 🎶

We will be accepting in school music lesson applications for the 2026-27 school year over the Summer break 🎹🌟

WOW! 🤩 What an incredible TWO days we’ve just had at Magna for our annual One Voice event — and honestly, it just keeps getting better every year! 🎶✨

This year’s show was truly something special 🎤💫 — a fantastic mix of music from timeless classics to blockbuster hits, plus a beautiful, specially composed medley from last year’s Rotherham Opera: Tales Untapped. A huge thank you to the brilliant composer Lucy Mulgan for your amazing work 👏🎼

But the real magic? 💖 Seeing so many of Rotherham’s children and young people singing their hearts out, filling the space with joy, energy, and big smiles 😄🎵
From parents and teachers to every single performer on stage, this event is such a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together through music 🎶🤝💛
