The AMRC Training Centre is based in a new 5,500 sq m building on a site next to the Advanced Manufacturing Park at Catcliffe, Rotherham.

The University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre, provides training in the practical and academic skills that engineering / manufacturing companies need to compete globally, from apprenticeship through to higher education. The Training Centre provides the practical and academic skills that manufacturing companies need to compete globally, from apprenticeship through to doctorate and MBA level, plus continuing professional development. The centre has links with both Sheffield universities for higher-level education and with the new Sheffield University Technical College (UTC), providing a full progression in engineering training for the first time in the region. The AMRC Training Centre works with manufacturers and training providers to make sure that our training will meet the needs of employers, and give young people the skills they need for a rewarding career in some of the world's most innovative industries. Meet Matt Wogan. A few years ago, Matt walked through the doors of the AMRC Training Centre as a Fabrication and Welding apprentice. Driven by passion and hard work, even winning Fabrication and Welding Apprentice of the Year in 2019. 🏆

After years in industry building real-world expertise, Matt's career path brought him right back to where it all began - this time, as a tutor.

Because Matt has walked in our students' shoes, he brings unique empathy, insight, and practical wisdom to every lesson. He knows what it takes to succeed from day one and is now helping the next cohort build their own futures in engineering.

🎓 Huge congratulations to our Class of 2026 degree apprentices!

On Friday, our degree apprentices delivered their final presentations, marking the culmination of years of hard work, hands-on learning and incredible dedication.

This cohort was described by Kathryn Jackson, programme lead for manufacturing technology degree apprenticeships, in three words: resilient, ambitious and creative.

It was inspiring to see all that hard work, perseverance and passion pay off in their impressive final projects. Balancing a degree with real-world project delivery is no small feat, and this group knocked it out of the park.
