🎓 Huge congratulations to our Class of 2026 degree apprentices!

On Friday, our degree apprentices delivered their final presentations, marking the culmination of years of hard work, hands-on learning and incredible dedication.

This cohort was described by Kathryn Jackson, programme lead for manufacturing technology degree apprenticeships, in three words: resilient, ambitious and creative.

It was inspiring to see all that hard work, perseverance and passion pay off in their impressive final projects. Balancing a degree with real-world project delivery is no small feat, and this group knocked it out of the park.

We can't wait to see the impact you continue to make!

You can have it all planned out, but things don't always go the way you expect.

Like many, Lila-Louise Glossop, project engineer at Wright Engineering, had set out to take the traditional university route post A-Levels. However when results day didn't go to plan, her eyes were opened to a different path.

Now Lila realises it was the best option for her.

"It has become more and more apparent to me that you cannot learn this stuff in a classroom. Dealing with unexpected challenges, solving problems, and working with clients across the engineering sector is providing invaluable experience that I wouldn’t have got on a traditional university degree."

Read Lila's story today and maybe find out if her plan B could be your plan A.

“What we’re doing by giving these apprentices an education is teaching them how to learn.

“If a new technology comes in a few years' time, they don’t need to go back to learn all over again - they can apply that learning.”

Louise Cowling, head of apprenticeship programmes delivery, and Fahim Hoque, technical engineer apprentice at AvantiGas, sat down with the team at BBC Radio 4 to look at how The University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre has helped transform the former Orgreave site from an industrial wasteland to a ‘hotspot of manufacturing activity’.

Know a young person trying to figure out their next steps after school? 🎓💡

University isn’t the only path to a great career - and it definitely doesn't have to mean student debt.

Take Abbie Green, for example. She started her apprenticeship at just 16 years old. Today, she’s earning a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree, getting paid a full-time wage, and will graduate with zero student debt.

But the benefits go way beyond the financial side. Abbie admits she started out as a shy teenager who was too scared to speak up in meetings. Thanks to her apprenticeship, her confidence skyrocketed. She is now a Lead Process Engineer who presents directly to the company board and even manages her own team.

If anyone is looking for a practical, fast-tracked way to launch their dream career, read Abbie’s story today and think about an apprenticeship route for you: https://bit.ly/3SMqNDX
