🚁 From qualification to capability… what comes next?

Last week we had another fantastic group with us for our Combined A2 CofC and GVC training, and we are already looking forward to welcoming some of them back for the next step.

On 22nd and 23rd October, we are running our 2-Day Drone Mapping Course, and we now have just 3 places remaining.

This course is designed to introduce you to practical drone mapping and help you understand how to turn captured imagery into useful data and deliverables.

Across the two days we will cover:

📍 Basic mapping principles and mission planning
🗺️ Production of 2D orthomosaics
🏗️ Creation of 3D models
💻 Different software options, from free-to-use platforms through to higher-spec systems such as gNext Labs and DJI Terra
🚁 How smaller consumer drones can still be used effectively for mapping tasks

That is why we also look at what can realistically be achieved with smaller consumer platforms such as the DJI Mini 5, helping you understand where lower-cost equipment can still deliver value and where more specialist equipment becomes necessary.

🚁 Day 2 and a full house at Iprosurv!

We are currently delivering a bespoke, closed Combined A2 CofC and GVC course for one of our corporate clients who is looking to integrate drones directly into its existing workflow.

The students started their training through blended learning, using our online platform to work through the theory around their work commitments.

Now they are with us for five days face-to-face, and this is where things really start to come together.

There will be plenty of instructor-led flying, but this course goes much further than simply learning how to operate a drone.

During the week the students will also get the opportunity to look at and test different drone platforms, helping them understand which aircraft, sensors and software are best suited to what they actually want to achieve.

They will also be getting hands-on with drone mapping and data processing, including:

📍 Mapping missions
🗺️ 2D orthomosaics
🏗️ 3D models
💻 Processing and interpreting drone data
📊 Turning captured data into usable business information

Because this is a bespoke closed course, we can focus the training around the client's intended applications and operational requirements.

Day 2: From drone training to real-world workflow integration.

Today we are into Day 2 of a bespoke, closed Combined A2 CofC and GVC course for one of our corporate clients, and it is a full house.

This organisation is not simply looking to “fly drones”. They are looking at how drone technology can be properly integrated into their existing workflow and deliver useful operational outcomes.

Because of work commitments, the students began with blended learning, using our online learning platform to build their theoretical knowledge before joining us for five days of face-to-face training.

Now the focus moves firmly towards application.

Over the five days they will receive:

✈️ Instructor-led practical flight training
📚 Confirmation and development of their theoretical knowledge
🚁 Opportunities to test different drone platforms and understand which aircraft best suits their intended outcomes
💻 Exposure to different software and data-processing workflows

First of all, a huge congratulations to everyone on passing their A2 CofC and successfully completing their GVC training. A fantastic achievement and one you should all be proud of.

What a great group.

A busy few days of theory, practical flying, site set-up, emergency procedures, assessments and, somehow, everyone still managed to smile for the course photo at the end!

It is always one of the best parts of these courses hearing how different students plan to use drones in the future. From inspections and surveying to media, construction and new business opportunities, no two journeys are ever quite the same.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us. It was a pleasure having you with us and we are looking forward to seeing what this latest group of professional drone pilots goes on to achieve.

🌤️ A beautiful morning here at Dearne Valley College, and everything is ready for another full A2 CofC and GVC combined course.

It is going to be a busy week.

The on-site flight training area is prepared, the flags are out, the training poles are in position and we are just waiting for our students to arrive.

Today starts with the foundations: drone maintenance, Unit 1 and Unit 2 theory, before moving outside this afternoon for Exercise First Flight.

This is where the theory starts becoming practical.

Students will work through safe site setup, initial aircraft checks and flight preparation before getting hands-on with our supplied DJI Mini 5 Pro training drones and beginning to build confidence on the controls.

One of the biggest advantages of training with Iprosurv at Dearne Valley College is that everything is here, in one dedicated training environment.

No packing up halfway through the day.

No travelling between classrooms and separate flying sites.

No losing valuable training time moving equipment and students around.

Designed for new and existing drone pilots, the course combines theory with practical flying and covers airspace, weather, flight planning, risk management, emergency procedures and operational flying.

No previous flying experience is required, and training drones are provided.

🚁 Starting today: Iprosurv’s 2-Day Basic Mapping & Photogrammetry Course

Today we welcome another group of drone pilots onto our two-day Basic Mapping & Photogrammetry Course, designed specifically to help operators take their first proper steps into drone mapping.

For many pilots, mapping is the natural progression from simply flying a drone.

The question is: how do you turn a flight into useful, professional data that meets the client’s expectations?

Over the next two days, our students will work through the complete basic mapping workflow, from understanding the client brief through to capturing and processing the data.

They will be learning:

📍 What information you need from the client before planning the mission
📍 How to understand what the client actually expects from the final output
📍 How to set up automated mapping missions
📍 Choosing suitable flight height, speed and camera settings
📍 Understanding frontlap, sidelap and image overlap
📍 How different settings can affect the quality of the finished model
📍 How to plan for successful data capture the first time
📍 Importing and processing captured imagery
📍 Producing basic 2D maps and 3D photogrammetry models
📍 Understanding the different processing software available to suit different budgets and requirements

One of the biggest messages we teach is that the drone pilot is not simply there to fly.

The pilot should also be able to advise the client.

A client might ask for a “drone map”, but what do they actually need?

What area needs capturing?
What level of detail is required?
What accuracy do they expect?
How will they use the finished data?
Do they need a 2D orthomosaic, 3D model or something more specialist?

Understanding those questions before the aircraft leaves the ground is a crucial part of delivering a professional service.

This course is about giving pilots a practical starting point.

You do not need to arrive as a surveyor or photogrammetry expert. Over these two days, we aim to give you the fundamental knowledge and practical workflow needed to start understanding and delivering basic drone mapping projects.

From there, you can continue developing into more advanced areas including RTK, GCPs, higher-accuracy survey workflows, LiDAR and specialist geospatial applications.
