QUEEN ANNE'S LACE... 👸

,,,,also known at Wild Carrot. I have always loved the dusky hues of the fauna found in sand dunes like Sea Holly and the muted reddish centre of Wild Carrot. Twilight has to be my favourite part of the day because of the soft, calming colours of the sky, and this is probably why I am obsessed with dead flowers in their twilight days!

Wild Carrot turns to seed in Summer, and Autumn and the bright radiance of being in full bloom gives way to the true form and patterns of the plant and flower.

In myths and legends, Wild Carrot is associated with spiritual protection and intuition. It is also said to be associated with sacrifice, deep passion, or ancestral memory.

BIBLIOMANCY 📖... when I feel a little scrambled or overwhelmed, I often reach for a book and practice bibliomancy - the act of opening a book at random and asking spirit, or the universe, or whatever you like to call it, for a message.

The book I picked up was a new one I have yet to delve into - BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH by Ismael Garcia I have been following them on Instagram for a while and really found resonance in their deep and authentic prose and musings.

The theme in this particular verse, showing up for others even when your own life feels so challenging, is something I have been thinking about recently. I felt that spirit was asking me to be aware when this is happening and to acknowledge it.

WHISPERS OF AUTUMN 🍂...

..call me cray, cray, but even in the humidity of today, there was just a little iddy biddy twang of autumn coming through. Maybe it was the pumpkins in my pumpkin patch that are getting bigger by the day! 😱

A basket of freshly picked and organic veggies for the family makes the hours of watering and weeding completely worthwhile.

Purple beans and tiny carrots for a small easy roast for Sunday teatime and curly kale throat with salt and oil to make kale crisps to accompany the World Cup final tonight 😋

PURPLE DWARF FRENCH BEANS 🫘 💜

The gift that just keeps on giving! Seven plants have provided us with eight large portions this week.

The lavender was alive with the sound of buzzing last night after the heat of the day had passed..🐝

..then I saw the biggest of them all, flying solo and working on the broadbean flowers.🌿

When I was 30, in a time when I was unsure of which direction to take (again!) I was sat in my little urban garden in Sheffield, alone and pondering, a huge bumblebee (like this one!) came working on a flower right next to me. I thought about how focussed the bee was on its goal, so much so that it seemingly didn't notice me or anything else around it. I thought in that moment that I needed to 'be more bee', and so I decided to have a tattoo of one on my wrist to remind me to focus. It does remind me, although I am not a fan of the tattoo itself now (but no regret, eh?) 🌱

The quiet optimism of July 🍐 ...

,,,still, balmy nights like this, walking amongst the fruit trees and plants at the allotment show us glimpses of colour, growth and the fruitfulness of what's to come in the coming months, giving us a a feeling of optimism and hope - a long exhale in the middle of a busy life. 🌱
