🎨 This week, Year 4/5 explored the vibrant artwork of Nigerian artist Jimoh Buraimoh in their Art lesson! The children studied Buraimoh’s distinctive beadwork style, exploring some of the key features and motifs found in his artwork. They then selected their favourite elements and incorporated them into their own unique collage designs.

After carefully drawing their own designs, the pupils chose bold colour palettes to bring their artwork to life. It was fantastic to see their creativity shine as they took inspiration from Buraimoh’s distinctive style. Well done, Y4/5!

We are incredibly proud of our pupils and their achievements both in and beyond school. This weekend, Nonhle took part in a dance competition and achieved some fantastic results:

⭐ Under 10 Street Dance - 6th place
⭐ Under 12 Fast Pairs - 5th place
⭐ Under 10 Starter Solo Slow Dance - 5th place
⭐ Under 12 Slow Pair - Recalled, narrowly missing the final
⭐ Under 10 Starter Fast - Reached the quarter-finals
⭐ Slow Team - 1st place!

Well done Nonhle, you should be extremely proud of yourself!

🎆 Last week, Year 4/5 began exploring their new class book, ‘The Firework-Maker’s’ Daughter by Philip Pullman. To kick off their writing journey, the pupils stepped back in time and immersed themselves in an atmospheric, old-fashioned firework shop. They explored interactive sensory boxes to spark their imaginations, stepped into Lila’s shoes and discussed what unique fireworks they might create and how they would design them.

It was a fantastic, creative way for pupils to develop their ideas, build excitement about their new text and step straight into the world of the story. Well done, Y4/5!

📖 Yesterday, Y3/4 had lots of fun as they brought a scene from ‘Flat Stanley’ to life through a Reading Theatre. The children took on the roles of the narrator, Mr Dart, Flat Stanley and the two thieves, using their voices and expression to help recreate the exciting scene.

They also explored how Jeff Brown creates suspense, thinking carefully about the characters’ emotions, tone of voice and the language used to keep the reader wondering what might happen next. It was fantastic to see the children engaging so confidently with the text and really bringing the characters to life. Well done, Year 3/4!

🎨 This week, Year 3/4 have been exploring Stone Age art and discovering how people used natural materials around them to create paintings and artwork.

The pupils became artists themselves, experimenting with making their own natural paints using dirt, turmeric and blackberries. They enjoyed seeing how different materials created different colours and textures and used their paints to create their own Stone Age-inspired artwork. Well done, Y3/4!

📣 This week, Year 2 worked with a partner to practise their overarm throwing skills. They focused on the position of their legs and making sure they threw the bean bag in the right direction for their partner to catch. Everyone worked hard and never gave up throughout the activity.
