⭐️TODDLER ROOM⭐️
We have been busy enhancing our toddler room, switching up some areas to capture the children’s interest and provide new learning opportunities.
We have updated our reading garden, making it feel cosy for the children to snuggle up up with a blanket and grab a cushion to sit back and enjoy a book either with independently, with friends or a practitioner. We have a variety of both fiction and none fiction books for the children to explore as well as story sacks with props. Our reading garden is a communication friendly space for our little ones to enjoy a cuddle, explore a book or activity or just chat away. We also have our song box with props which our littles ones love taking part in. We do our carpet times here where we say good morning, explore the weather and what day it is as well as remind each other of our golden rules. We also have our colour of the month which our little ones love exploring and finding objects of the same colour. 📚🌻🎶❄️🌦️🌈
Our creative area offers lots of choice for the children to explore. We have multiple activities on the go so children have choice of what they take part in. Activities are based on children’s interest and planning 😊. Activities include mark making, painting, stamp printing, cutting and sticking, playdough, shaving foam paint, gloop and so much more. We ask lots of open end questions and use lots of descriptive language and praise. ✏️🎨🖌️✂️
We have our sand and water area for the children to explore. We have lots of activities to support fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination such as pouring and emptying watering, scooping sand. We use lots of language like ‘the sand is soft’ as well an encourage mathematical development ‘I have 2 ducks in the water’. We’re always changing up activities in this area to suit planning and interests and sometimes another activities such as gloop and shaving foam. This area offers lots of messy fun and plenty of learning opportunities. 🪣🏖️⛵️🦆
Our home corner is a safe space for our little ones to explore role playing, whether this be using the dressing up clothes to support imaginative play, role playing doctors, firefighters, vets etc. Our children enjoy exploring the kitchen pretending to make food or cups of tea, they do this independently or in a group, keeping the play going. We have lots of resources to support all play activities including babies too with pushchairs, clothing, potties and highchairs. This area offers lots of different learning opportunities that can be incorporated into the children’s play I.e mathematics to weigh out ingredients when making food, small world to copy home life experiences or to talk about special events from home I.e someone’s birthday so you get the birthday cake out to sing happy birthday. We also celebrate different festivals in this area too which our children love learning about 🍳⏲️⚖️🩺🍼👩💼🥢
Our music area has lots of instruments and song cards for our children to join in with, they can make their own music and songs or sing along to familiar nursery rhymes. We also add resources from other areas such as home corner pots and pans for the children to experiment making new sounds 🥁🎺🎸🎹🪇
Our smallworld area has been enhanced and changes regularly to support planning and children’s interest. This area is very popular as our children love exploring different animals whether this be farm, safari, antarctic. We explore different set ups such as train track, children use imagination to where the train is going ‘to the shops’ or ‘to the seaside’. We have police, fire station, hospitals with vehicles and figures to support and much more. We extend our learning in this area by going on walks in the community, pointing out what we can see, talking about past experiences and much more. Our children look exploring books based on life cycles too, their favourite is The Very Hungry Caterpillar 🐘🐖🐬🐛🚂🚒
Our construction area is brilliant for little ones to use imagination to build things, with a variety of tools and resources to support their play. We have linked to construction area to urban junk too so children can explore different materials to build. Our children enjoy dressing up ready to be on the worksite and use toolbox and clipboards to support their imaginations 🚧🔨🧱📋
Our physical development area offers the opportunity for children to explore large movement activities indoors as well as outdoors. Other activities include bowling, catching and throwing a ball, bean bag toss and much more 🎳⚽️🏀
Our atelier area which is also linked to loose arts play is filled with lots of natural restores for the children to experiment and express themselves with, this links into talking about different feelings and emotions. ⭐️BABY ROOM⭐️
We have been busy enhancing our baby room for our babies to enjoy and explore helping their development to grow.
Our cosy area has a tipi to offer a communication friendly space which our babies often enjoy having a cuddle with a practitioner whilst looking at a book or singing songs or babbling to their friends 😊. We have lots of black and white resources for our babies to explore which help develop their vision, eye muscles and visual pathways. We have a ball pit which is a big hit, our babies to explore the different coloured balls, exploring the feel of time and passing them from hand to hand. 🖤🤍📚🎶
Our home corner provides role play opportunities for our babies, they get to see similarities they see at home like pots, pans, utensils which they love turning into instruments. Our older babies who are almost ready to transition into toddlers enjoy starting to take part in pretend play in this area. Our practitioners use lots of language when exploring with the babies to help develop their communication and language skills 🥣🍳🍼
Our messy area there is currently sand. The babies enjoy exploring the feel of this through their fingers, patting and digging with spades and using sand moulds to create sandcastles, shells etc and exploring different patterns using the sand rollers. Our practitioners use lots of descriptive language to support their play. As well as sand our babies also explore water play and other messy activities such as paint, mark making, shaving foam, gloop, playdough. The messier the activity the better 😊🪣💧🎨
We have a large movement area which gets changed around to help support gross motor development. Currently we have a caterpillar rocking chair which our babies love being on and singing songs such as row your boat with a practitioner and for babies who are starting to be on the move we have our walker to encourage them taking steps. We often bring out soft play blocks for the babies to climb and explore and tunnels for our babies to crawl through. This helps support physical development as well as PSED as the babies are learning to become independent by having a go themselves but also seeking out help if needed. This area can also help develop communication as practitioners are singing to the babies, talking about the colours of the blocks and the caterpillars, using language such as fast and slow and so much more learning opportunities 😊🐛🎶
Our small world is built up in different sections. We change the animal set up in relation to the children's interest. We've currently been enjoying Dear Zoo which means we have put out the zoo animals for our little ones to explore! We also have a little doll house set up for the children to enjoy! In this area we have also integrated our atelier. This allows the children to explore the natural resources and create their own set up using the materials provided to them. 🦁🍁
Our baby play and sensory area allows the little ones to explore different activities independently and discover how their actions can cause an affect. They have loved exploring the busy blocks which helps to promote their fine motor skills by holding onto objects and manoeuvring them. We also have placed interactive texture circles onto the wall. This allows the babies to explore different textures and also use their fine and gross motor skills to move the circles off the wall and place them back on! We adapt these areas to ensure they meet the needs of the children in setting. 🌈
The music area creates a space for little ones to be their own musician. Various different musical instruments are provided so children can explore the different noises they can make! We also have a song of the month which the children love! This creates repetitiveness for the little ones which is great for their communication and language development! 🎶🎹
