Our Wickersley Sixth Form Y12 and Y13 art students recently had a fantastic day out visiting two galleries in Sheffield; combining hands-on practise with gallery-based learning! 🌟

Students deepened their observational drawing practice during a life drawing session at the The Millennium Gallery, before visiting Graves Gallery to explore its outstanding art exhibitions. Opportunities like these allow our students to connect technical skill-building with real-world artistic context.

Wickersley Alumni Network - Luke Parker, Delivery Executive - Google Cloud

After leaving Wickersley, Luke made the decision to challenge himself and joined the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. As an Army Officer in the Royal Engineers, he spent 12 years operating across the globe.

During this time, he realised that the key to future relevance is continuous learning. While serving, he completed a Master of Science in Geospatial Intelligence. In 2023, he transitioned from the military into the tech sector, joining Google as a Technology Programme Manager. He is currently focused on delivering cutting-edge Cloud solutions to the public sector. Luke has recently completed an Executive MBA at Warwick Business School, specialising in Entrepreneurialism and Venture Capital. Looking ahead, this experience has cemented Luke’s passion for building, scaling, and investing in the key ventures that will drive the next decade of innovation.

Luke's Words of Wisdom:

"My journey began right where yours is today: in the classrooms of Wickersley. From these hallways to leading in the tech industry, my path hasn't been a straight line, but the foundation built here made all the difference.

If there’s one lesson to take away, it’s this: your potential isn't defined by where you start, but by your willingness to adapt and grow. The critical thinking, resilience, and curiosity you build at Wickersley today are the exact tools you will need to lead tomorrow. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and define your own path."

📣 This term, Y8 visited the Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Sikh Temple in Sheffield as part of their RE entitlement curriculum, alongside an Urban Geography fieldwork visit along the River Don.

At the Gurdwara, students took part in a guided tour, building on their learning about Sikhism. The experience helped them challenge misconceptions, develop empathy and understanding, and explore the importance of mutual respect and tolerance. Students then put their Geography skills into practice along the River Don, investigating environmental quality, sustainability and Sheffield’s changing urban landscape.

The visit was a fantastic example of the Wickersley Partnership Trust Enrichment Promise, giving students meaningful experiences beyond the classroom and helping them broaden their perspectives.

📣 Congratulations to Harshini, a Y13 Economics student, who has been awarded a Commendation for her entry to the prestigious John Locke Institute Essay Competition. Harshini’s essay explored the thought-provoking question, “Did Jeff Bezos get rich at the expense of his customers, workers or both?”

Her work demonstrated her ability to think critically, apply economic reasoning and engage thoughtfully with a real-world economic debate. A fantastic achievement – well done, Harshini!

Thank you to all the prospective students and families who attended our Year 6 Open Evening last night!

The event began with welcome presentations from Mr Hardcastle and Mrs Tipper, outlining our vision for student success. Families then toured our subject areas, enjoyed hands-on demonstrations, and spoke with staff and students about life at WSSC.

As part of Wickersley Partnership Trust, our core mission is to send all young people into an ever-changing world, able and qualified to play their full part in it. We were proud to showcase our ambitious curriculum and values, which support students in becoming confident, capable, and resilient young adults.

We hope all our visitors gained a feel for our warm and supportive learning community and we're looking forward to welcoming many of the Y6s back as official WSSC students during the Transition period in the summer.

A final big thank you to our brilliant student helpers who guided visitors throughout the night - they were fantastic ambassadors of the Wickersley Way!

⚽ Recently, Harrison in Y10 was selected for the England Men’s Under 15 Emerging Talent Camp at St George’s Park this summer, which is a fantastic honour for any young footballer. During the holidays, Harrison kept working hard at Sheffield United, training most days with the U18s and scholars to keep improving his game.

In August, all that effort paid off. He was chosen to spend three nights at the camp alongside 35 other talented players from clubs across the country – a brilliant reward for his dedication. Well done, Harrison!
