Help us grow the WPT Uniform Bank πβ»οΈ
As the school year comes to an end, many families find themselves with school uniform that has been outgrown but still has plenty of life left in it.
We're asking our school community to help us build the Wickersley Partnership Trust Uniform Bank by donating good-quality uniform items that are no longer needed. By giving pre-loved uniform a second life, we can help reduce costs for families, minimise waste and ensure students have access to the clothing they need for school.
We're looking for donations of:
π· Jumpers and cardigans
π· Shirts and polo shirts
π· Trousers, skirts and shorts
π· PE kit and sportswear
π· School shoes and black trainers
π· Coats
All sizes are welcome, provided items are clean and in good condition.
Every donation will contribute to a growing resource that supports families across our school and Trust.
Donations can be dropped off at school reception on any school day or during the following collection events:
π Cutler's Hall, Sheffield
π
Friday 24th July, 11am - 2pm
π Cranworth Road Centre, Rotherham
π
Saturday 25th July, 11am - 2pm
More information about how families can request items will be communicated in the coming weeks, in good time for the start of the new academic year.
For any questions about the WPT Uniform Bank, please email [email protected].
Thank you for helping us make a difference for our students and families.

π¨ As we approach the end of the academic year, we are taking time to celebrate the incredible achievements of our FS2 children. This week, we are recognising the fantastic artists they have become. Throughout the year, the children have explored a range of artists and techniques through the Wickersley Partnership Trust Art Curriculum. They have created colourful work inspired by Wassily Kandinsky, Alma Thomas, James Brunt, Anna Ray, Piet Mondrian, Georgia OβKeeffe, and Henri Matisse, developing their skills in drawing, painting, textiles, and collage along the way.
We are incredibly proud of the creativity, enthusiasm, and progress they have shown throughout their artistic journey. Their wonderful artwork has transformed our classroom into a gallery full of colour and imagination. Well done, FS2!

How we teach children to read in EYFS at Ashwood π
Reading is taught step by step through our phonics programme, Little Wandle, to help every child become a confident, fluent reader.
Here's how it works:
π Learning sounds that make up words - our children are taught how letters represent sounds and how those sounds come together to form words.
π Blending sounds, for example: /c/a/t/ becomes "cat" - they learn how to decode new words independently.
π Reading books matched to learning stage - books for home-reading are carefully selected.
π§βπ« Consistent teaching - we begin teaching phonics early in Foundation Stage and it continues with clear progression as children move through school.
β¨ Building more than just reading skills - we develop a love of stories, vocabulary, comprehension and an enjoyment of reading for pleasure.

β¨ Ashwood was delighted to welcome author Struan Murray for an inspiring online visit as part of Libraries for Primaries. During the session, Struan shared fascinating insights into his writing process, explaining how inspiration for stories can come from anywhere. Pupils particularly enjoyed learning about his doodling process and how sketching helps him develop ideas and overcome challenges when writing. It was a valuable reminder that creativity takes time and that great ideas often grow through perseverance.
The children also loved hearing about some of his books, including Orphans of the Tide, Shipwreck Island, and Mermedusa, which sparked plenty of excitement and curiosity. It was a fantastic opportunity that encouraged pupils to use their imagination, embrace creativity, and enjoy the journey of reading and writing. A huge thank you to Struan for such an engaging and inspiring visit!

π¨ IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE π¨
With the recent hot weather, we know how tempting it can be to cool off in local reservoirs, lakes and rivers.
We urge all students and families to remember the dangers of water.
The water may look safe and calm on the surface, but you can never know the conditions underneath.
Cold water shock, sudden drop-offs, and hidden currents are deadly. Even strong swimmers can encounter difficulties.
Please stay out of the water. Do not take the risk.
