A message from Rossington fire station

🚒 PLEASE LEAVE ROOM FOR OUR FIRE ENGINES 🚒

We’re asking our Rossington community to please think carefully about where you park, particularly on narrow residential streets.

Yesterday, we attended an incident where our fire appliance was unable to get through due to vehicles parked along the road. Thankfully, we were able to get to the incident, but delays like this can have serious consequences when every second counts. ⏱️

Please leave enough space for a fire engine to safely pass through when parking. Remember, our appliances are much larger than a normal car and need plenty of room to manoeuvre.

A few extra seconds spent checking your parking could make a lifesaving difference to someone in an emergency.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep Rossington safe. 🚒

🌧️🚗 AUTUMN HAS ARRIVED... WHETHER YOUR CAR'S READY OR NOT.

Yesterday I was sat in traffic on St Catherine's Interchange, looking down at the motorway.

Grey skies.
Rain.
Spray everywhere.

The traffic coming towards me mostly had headlights on.

The traffic heading away?

Well... it was a lucky dip.

Some had lights.

Some appeared to be relying on optimism and DRLs.

The clue is in the name...

DAYTIME Running Lights.

After several heatwaves and those lovely long evenings, autumn suddenly arrives and catches everyone out.

Your windscreen steams up.

You haven't used the wipers for months, and when you do they smear the screen like you've cleaned it with gravy.

The roads flood after the first proper downpour.

Leaves appear from nowhere.

Then there's the grey car with no rear lights, disappearing into the motorway spray.

If David Attenborough narrated British commuting...

«"Here we see the elusive Silver SUV... perfectly adapted to disappearing into poor weather while its owner remains blissfully unaware."»

Meanwhile the driver is thinking...

"My dashboard's lit up."

Lovely.

So is my microwave.

Doesn't mean anyone behind you can actually see the car.

As the nights draw in, do yourself (and everyone else) a favour.

💡 Turn your lights on in rain, fog and gloomy conditions.
🧽 Check your wipers still wipe rather than paint.
💦 Top up the screenwash.
🛞 Check your tyres.
🌊 Slow down in heavy rain and standing water.

Winter driving is coming...

Let's all try not to become Britain's next disappearing act. 🚗💡

Another first-time pass this morning! 🎉🚗

Huge congratulations to Riley on passing your driving test today!

From your very first lesson back in March to passing first time with just 21 hours of driving lessons and only 3 minor faults, what an incredible achievement!

I'm so proud of you, Riley. Wishing you many years of safe and happy driving. Enjoy your freedom! 🚙👏

A big thank you as well for my Stella and the lovely card, they're both very much appreciated! And thanks for the reminder about not drinking and driving... I'll do my best to remember! 😂🍺

If you're looking to start driving lessons, I've opened my waiting list from October onwards. Get in touch to secure your place!

As a driving instructor, I spend my days sitting in the passenger seat teaching people how to stay safe, stay alert, and respect the power of the vehicle they're controlling. But after some heavy conversations with friends this week, I have to admit, the level of anxiety on our roads right now is unlike anything I’ve seen before.
Between social media trends pushing people to pull dangerous stunts behind the wheel for "likes," to the devastating news last week about the two police officers killed by reckless driving, it breaks my heart.
I’m not sharing this to spread anger or hate. I’m writing this because I care deeply about keeping our community, my students, and your loved ones alive.
Every single day, I watch my learners work hard to build good habits, check their mirrors, scan for pedestrians, and treat the road with respect. It frustrates me to know that while so many are trying to do the right thing, others treat a car like a toy or a prop for social media clout. A vehicle is a heavy machine, it doesn't give second chances.
How you can help me keep our roads safe:
Talk to your young drivers: If you have teenagers or young adults in the family, talk to them about peer pressure and online trends. Remind them that driving dangerous for a video isn't cool, it's deadly.
Set the example: Kids and passengers watch how we drive. Put the phone away, keep your cool, and never take unnecessary risks.
Remind them of the stakes: A split second of distraction or reckless fun can ruin multiple lives in an instant, including their own.
Please stay safe out there, keep your eyes open, and let’s look out for one another.

This picture might be funny... but the message is serious! 👇

🦤 Rule #1: Maintain a Safe Following Distance
Tailgating doesn't just risk a bump—it risks turning two ostriches into one very confused camel! 🐪
Leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front. A good rule is at least a two-second gap in dry conditions, and even more in the wet.

🛑 Rule #2: Sudden Braking Has Consequences
If you brake suddenly and the driver behind is too close, you're both going to have a very bad day... and possibly become a brand-new species! 😅

🚘 Rule #3: Keep Your Car a Car
If your hatchback suddenly grows two humps, congratulations... you've been following (or followed) a little too closely!

😂 Jokes aside, keeping a safe distance gives you more time to react, reduces stress, and helps keep everyone safe on the road.

Keep your distance, keep your shape, and drive safe!

Now the nights are drawing in and the weather's starting to turn, it’s definitely time to get your car ready for darker, wetter driving.
A few quick checks before you set off can save you a load of hassle.
Check your lights, walk around the car and make sure all headlights, indicators, and brake lights are working and clean.
Tread and tyres, slippery roads mean you need good grip. Check your tyre pressure and make sure your tread is well above the legal limit.
Wiper blades and screenwash, dark nights and road spray make visibility tough. Top up your screenwash and swap out any squeaky or streaky wipers.
Demist early, clear your windscreen completely before pulling off. Don't rely on a tiny cleared patch to see through!
Pack a winter mini kit, throw a scraper, de-icer, torch, and a warm jacket in the boot just in case.
Whether you're brand new to driving in the dark or looking to build confidence on tricky winter roads, drop me a message or give me a call!
