🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Calling all Scottish primary teachers!

CfE already asks you to develop all four capacities, treat health & wellbeing as everyone's job, and build in interdisciplinary learning. Active learning ticks every one of those boxes β€” in the same lesson you're already teaching.

At Gavinburn Primary in West Dunbartonshire, staff tried one active maths lesson a week for a month. The result? Children who'd switched off from numeracy became genuinely excited to learn β€” and it's now written into their Teaching & Learning Handbook.

"It is so refreshing to find a resource which maximises engagement for the children without an impact to staff workload and wellbeing."
β€” Lorna Blackhurst, Headteacher, Gavinburn Primary School

βœ… 3,500+ ready-to-teach lessons mapped to CfE Experiences & Outcomes
βœ… Numeracy and literacy covered, Early to Second Level
βœ… Classroom, hall or outdoors β€” whatever space you've got
βœ… No extra planning, no workload penalty

And if you're thinking about Pupil Equity Funding β€” this is exactly the kind of intervention PEF is designed for: targeted at the learners who disengage first, easy to evidence, and benefiting the whole school rather than one cohort.

When a group of bright Year 5 and 6 girls at Holy Family Catholic School were underperforming in Maths, the school turned to active learning to change the story.

The result? Renewed confidence, genuine enjoyment of Maths lessons, and one Year 6 pupil who'd been anxious about the subject going on to score 100% in her arithmetic SATs paper.

Only 46% of pupils get their 30 active minutes within the school day. That's the headline from the Youth Sport Trust PE and School Sport Annual Report - and it's exactly the gap Teach Active is built to close.

No extra PE slot needed, no extra kit: just movement built straight into the Maths and English lessons you're already teaching. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ“š

🏁 Lesson of the Week: Grand Prix Grid

Who says times tables can't be thrilling? In this Year 3 favourite, children set up their own Grand Prix track with cones, race down to grab a question card, then dash back to solve it as part of their "Formula 1 Team."

First team to complete their grid correctly wins the race! πŸ†

It's active, it's competitive (in the best way), and it's quietly building fluency in multiplication and division β€” including those trickier missing number and scaling problems.
Fancy a different Grand Prix every week? Try Silverstone one week, Monaco the next, and see which team tops the podium by the end of term.
