Thank you to Theatreforlife for such an inspiring day. Students learned about how the brain works, how to look after our brain, and how to make small lifestyle changes that can help reduce our chances of dementia by up to 40%.

We were so proud of our lovely students, who participated so well and asked really interesting questions. A fab morning had by all! 😁

We’re looking forward to seeing the whole show in November! 🧠

For those students who have just finished Advanced Theatre (or, indeed, any student who loves drama!), the post below showcases some of the work Forest Forge Theatre Company do!

Jo and Tyler have given our Advanced Theatre students a fantastic experience over the last ten weeks culminating in some great performances today at our Drama Festival. 🎭

We aim for all our sessions, all the time to be supporting the mental health of our participants. Whether it is an after school drama club, Act Your Age, our funded Waterside Drama Club, Youth Theatre, Young Company, Branching Out or Game, our participants experience comes first. And we recognise that some mental health issues are not always very visible, so take extra care to support those more vulnerable. And encourage all the people in whatever room to work with compassion, warmth and friendliness.

⭐️Advanced Theatre Course⭐️

Year 7 and 8 students have been notified via email if they have a place. A list of names will also be on the board in the Lantern tomorrow.

There were very few places for this, so students must only attend if they have email confirmation.

For Year 7 students who missed out, there will be another chance next year.

We’re looking forward to welcoming Forest Forge Theatre Company and to start making fab theatre for our Drama Festival!

ROMEO & JULIET 2023

Quite simply - epic.

We are beyond proud of the wonderfully talented cast and crew, who graced the stage four times in two nights! Their commitment, energy and passion for this production has been unrivalled. They truly have been amazing to work with and we have certainly made memories that will last a lifetime.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported at home, behind the scenes and in the audience. It is always a team effort and we are proud to be Team Mountbatten Drama! 😊

Yesterday, we took 48 wonderful Year 8 students to London. They were put through their paces at Pineapple exploring a scene from ‘The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’.

In the afternoon, we were wowed by the fantastic stage show - such an inspirational retelling of the tales from Narnia.

Thank you to all the families who supported the trip and to the staff who accompanied us.

On Saturday, our wonderful ‘Romeo and Juliet’ cast gave up five hours of their weekend to create some amazing physical theatre moments for the show.

Italy - Day Six

Today has been a mixture of excitement at returning home to our families and own beds, and sadness at realising this wonderful trip has come to an end. Writing this as we travel back to school, we are tired but happy that we got to experience Italy through the lens of drama, and have certainly made some amazing memories.

Our day started with our final breakfast - delicious croissants! That fuelled us to tidy rooms and pack bags, checking passports and luggage tags. The coach took us back to Milan with a pit stop on the way for some last minute shopping and food, before arriving at the airport with plenty of time to have one last taste of Italian gelato!

We are due back at 9.30pm this evening. Parents/carers: if you’re reading this in time, please park considerately when waiting for your children. We know you are desperate to see them, but we need to make sure they have their belongings and that they’ve signed out with their registering teacher.

Thank you to all of you for supporting this trip - Drama’s first international excursion! Thank you to all our fabulous students - you’ve all been outstanding and such a credit to yourselves, your families and to Mountbatten. And thank you to the staff who have given up time with their families to come with us, with particular thanks to Mrs B, who spent over a year tirelessly working on this trip to make it the success it has been.

Italy - Day Five

Our last full day in Italy has been fantastic, kickstarted with a super commedia dell’arte workshop. Our Drama students were in their element donning their masks and physicalising the exaggerated stock characters. Check out our Instagram stories for some videos!

After a pasta lunch, we took a coach to the south of Lake Garda. As we disembarked, we hit our first rain shower of the trip, sending us scurrying in to buy ponchos! By the time we boarded our boats, we enjoyed drier weather. The tour around the south part of the lake was wonderful, taking in glorious mountain scenery and the beauty of the lake’s shores.

The rest of the afternoon was given over to explore the town of Sirmione. With a host of gelato outlets to choose from, it would have been rude not to partake, with even the teachers indulging in a Saturday afternoon treat!

This is our final night in Italy. It’s gone too quickly, but we’ve had a great time and made wonderful memories. Tomorrow, we’ll endeavour to keep you posted on departures and arrival time at school.
