Year 11 students recently enjoyed an A Level Economics taster lesson 🧮✨

During the session, students explored the difference between macroeconomics and microeconomics, investigated wage differences, and took part in an interactive challenge matching salaries to a range of occupations. The lesson also provided an insight into the many exciting pathways Economics can open up in higher education and future careers.

The taster was led by Mrs Maritza Tucker who joined Embley this September as our new Economics teacher, having been Head of Economics at Peter Symonds College. Prior to that, Mrs Tucker worked for over 10 years in international development and socio-economic regeneration in research, policy analysis and project management roles at the WWF-UK, New Economics Foundation and Women’s World Bank.

This week is National Cadet Week, giving us the perfect opportunity to recognise the outstanding contribution our cadets make to Embley life! 🪖✨

Through the CCF, our students learn far more than practical skills. They develop leadership, self-discipline, teamwork and a sense of responsibility, while building the confidence to take on new challenges. Whether representing Embley at formal events, attending leadership camps, or taking part in training and visits, our cadets consistently demonstrate the values that sit at the heart of our school.

Over the years the programme has continued to evolve with the addition of our Navy section and we are proud to see our students continue to grow into capable young people ready to make a positive difference in their communities.

You can't stop the beat! 🎶🕺 Our senior School students were thrilled to welcome acclaimed performer Layton Williams to Embley for a dance workshop and Q&A session.

Known for his roles in Billy Elliot, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Titanique, Bad Education and Strictly Come Dancing, Layton led a high-energy workshop featuring choreography from the hit musical Hairspray. Students gained valuable insight into professional rehearsal techniques, performance skills and life in the industry, before asking questions about his career on stage and screen.

It was a fantastic opportunity to learn from such an accomplished performer, and our students left feeling motivated, inspired and ready to take their own performances to the next level!

Senior School students have been developing their practical skills through a range of exciting DT projects ⚒️✨

Year 9 3D Design students are designing and constructing a personal repository to store their most treasured belongings. As part of the project, they are exploring different joining methods and testing their accuracy by creating comb joints.

Year 10 students have begun their Materials Investigations Project, developing practical skills and knowledge of materials, tools and manufacturing processes ahead of their GCSE Sustained Project. Currently, they are learning how timber can be manipulated using workshop equipment by creating their own timber vase inspired by a well-known artist.

Taking our place value learning outdoors! 🌳✨ Year 2 have been exploring place value and numbers up to 100 through a hands-on outdoor learning activity. The children were challenged to collect natural materials and use them to represent tens and ones. They worked hard to partition numbers using their resources, demonstrating a fantastic understanding of place value.

This practical activity helped the children visualise numbers in a meaningful way, making mathematical concepts easier to understand while bringing learning to life in the great outdoors.

Senior School students enjoyed a taste of Britain with a specially prepared themed lunch celebrating British Food Fortnight 🇬🇧✨

Our in-house chefs put an inventive spin on some much-loved British classics, serving up Yorkshire pudding tacos with pulled beef, rich gravy and horseradish cream, smoked haddock rarebit mac and cheese, and bubble and squeak pancakes with an HP sauce dressing.

Held each autumn around Harvest Festival, British Food Fortnight is a celebration of British food and provided a great opportunity to showcase familiar flavours with a creative twist.

Over the summer, we launched a new series of Sports Performance Camps designed to accelerate development and raise performance in a focused, professional environment in hockey, netball and rugby.

Following the success of our camps, we are excited to be offering more over October half term:

🏐 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽 - 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟲 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿
Led by Embley’s Head of Netball, Zoe Leavers, this performance camp will focus on developing and enhancing players’ technical and tactical skills through a series of targeted workshops.

🏑 𝗛𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽 - 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟳 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿
Led by our Head of Hockey, Morgan Sturt, this programme will offer high-quality pitch-based coaching and players will undertake sessions focused on technical refinement, tactical understanding, and decision-making at game intensity.

Led by Embley’s Head of Rugby, Ben Turner, this one-day programme offers a comprehensive development experience featuring position-specific coaching, tactical awareness sessions and, strength and conditioning.

Open to both Embley and non-Embley students, these camps give young athletes the skills, insight and training needed to take their performance to the next level.

The traditional tug of war kicked off our exciting programme of House competitions and events! 💪✨

Years 7 and 8 displayed outstanding teamwork, determination and Embley spirit as they battled for the first house points of the year. Congratulations to Nightingale who won the Year 7 competition with Austen and Chichester coming joint first in the Year 8 battle.

There is plenty more to look forward to this term, with opportunities to demonstrate creativity in the House Art and Photography Competition, while our Lip Sync Competition promises to be fantastic entertainment. On the sports field, students will also have the chance to represent their houses in Boys' Rugby 7s and Girls' Hockey.
