Calling all Canewdon, Rochford, Hockley and Stambridge inflexible chickens...

These September yoga classes are for you!

Forest Flow Yoga with Laura is back and there's a new class!

🌿 Sunday evenings from 6th September, 7pm to 8:15pm.

🌿 Friday mornings (brand new!) from 11th September, 9:30am to 10:45am.

Both will be held at the Canewdon Village Hall. Some mats are available to borrow if you don't have your own.

The Friday morning class is a brand new addition and a trial run, so if Friday mornings work better for you than Sunday evenings, now is the time to show up and make it happen. The more of you who come, the more it becomes a regular thing. πŸ‘€

Both classes are gentle, welcoming, and completely accessible, whether you've never set foot on a yoga mat, haven't moved in years, or your flexibility is, shall we say... a work in progress.

Every session includes plenty of alternatives within every movement, because your comfort and safety will always come first with me.

You can expect to:

πŸƒ Pause (properly) and actually hear yourself breath
πŸƒ Stretch out the tension your body has been holding
πŸƒ Feel good in your body again
πŸƒ Quieten your mind
πŸƒ Leave lighter than you arrived

For September only:

Β£10 per class, but bring a friend and they come for free!

(Or be cheeky about it and go halves, that's a fiver each. We won't tell anyone 🀣).

To save your space, please message me and I'll send over a quick health screening form, it just means I can make sure I support you as well as possible from day one.

Drop me a message, let me know which class (or classes!) you're interested in, and let's get you on the mat!

xx Laura

Rained out this morning but this afternoon is PERFECT.

Free yoga in Canewdon Park at 4:30pm.

It's not too late to join, all ages and abilities welcome!

23/08/2026

The last full week of the summer holidays has arrived!

So before the school bags come back out, before the routines restart, before September sweeps everyone back into the rush, I'd love to invite you to come and breathe with me. Outside. In the park. Completely free.

This one is for all of us.

For the children who have mixed feelings about going back, the ones carrying excitement or a few nerves. Gentle movement and breathing is one of the most powerful tools we have to calm the nervous system.

For the parents and grandparents who have spent six weeks holding down the fort.

For anyone who has been meaning to try yoga and just hasn't yet.

Outdoors, informal, free, and completely welcoming to all ages and all abilities. No experience required. No need to be flexible, fit, or familiar with yoga at all.

Just come.

🌿 Wednesday 26th August
🌿 8:30am
🌿 Canewdon Park

Free, all ages, children very welcome.

Comment below or message me to let me know you're coming, I'd love to know how many to expect.

What on earth do blackberries have to do with yoga? 🀣

I've been out blackberry picking again. They're prolific around my village at the moment but also all over Southend 😍😍😍

Once you start noticing them you can't stop.

They're absolutely everywhere right now and I am obsessed.

I don't even particularly like blackberries.
I know. I know. 🀣

But I am addicted to picking them. And it occurred to me this week what a wonderfully mindful activity it is to do this time of year.

When you're blackberry picking, you are completely present.

You're not thinking about work. You're not thinking about chores. You're not thinking about responsibilities.

You are just... looking. Moving slowly through the world with total attention on one simple, satisfying thing.

That is yoga.

Yoga at its heart is the practice of being fully here.

Of quietening the mental noise and arriving, completely, in the present moment.

A blackberry bush will do the same!

This particularly haul pictured became a crumble.

The next one is destined for jam, another beautifully slow, intentional, completely absorbing activity that I highly recommend to anyone who needs to get out of their head for an afternoon. (I love homemade gift giving round Christmas!).

Find your blackberry picking. Whatever that looks like for you, the slow walk, the simply, fully absorbing task, the thing that brings you completely into the moment without even trying.

That's where the stillness lives. 🌿

My sister in law gave me a voucher months ago (could even have been December πŸ˜…) and I have been trying to find the "right time" to use it ever since.

This morning I finally used it and the lovely Emily from Romans Retreat came and gave me a full body massage from the comfort of home. It's the first time we've ever met and we got on like a house on fire, soooo much in common, so many overlaps 🀣. Small business owners/ ex teachers GET IT 😍.

She is also BRILLIANT at her job (highly recommend, Essex friends!).

Flexible working is wonderful but it can also be a bit of a trap too, because when life gets busy and challenging and full, it is so easy to just keep going. I'll just finish this, I'll just do that. I've just got to deal with this. I've got to fix that.

You keep filling up your time with more and more and more. Go. Go. Go. Go. My body has taken some extreme measures to get me to stop over the last few months.

We all know we show up better in our work, in our relationships, and in our life having had opportunities for true stillness and rest.

It does not always have to be a massage. But we have to make space for rest because there will never be a right time to have it.

I'm so glad I did today πŸ’š

Emily, you're lovely xx

One of the things I love most about yoga is that it isn't limited by a studio, a mat or a perfect playlist.

It's simply about tuning in to what your body needs, and responding to it, wherever you happen to be at the time.

Like paddle boarding. For me paddle boarding IS yoga. My mind goes so so so quiet out on the water.

Because when you're standing up on a board trying not to fall into the sea (trust me) you are not thinking about your to-do list. 🀣

Any yoga balance pose works in exactly the same way. Your only thought becomes don't fall over, and that's meditation in itself πŸ˜‚

And then there's this.

I am having a quiet afternoon laying down inside the beach hut, after enjoying the paddle and a swim in the sea, and without even really thinking about it, I moved my legs up the wall.

I didn't think much of it until moments ago when it dawned on me that this is a classic yoga move 🀣

On some subconscious level my body asked for this and I did it because it felt good.

This is Viparita Karani (legs up the wall) and this is why it's WONDERFUL....

🌿 Drains fluid from tired, heavy legs
🌿 Reverses the blood flow and supports circulation
🌿 Relieves tension in the lower back gently and passively
🌿 Calms the nervous system
🌿 Reduces anxiety and quietens a busy mind
🌿 Supports lymphatic drainage
🌿 Wonderful before bed if sleep feels elusive

All you need is a wall. And about five minutes.

Your body already knows what it needs. Yoga just gives you permission to listen.
