Gads Hill School - Official

Gads Hill School - Official Gad’s Hill School delivers an exciting, independent education for children aged 3-16 years in the home of Charles Dickens.

The Greatest of Expectations

Gad’s Hill School is set in the expansive and beautiful grounds of the former family home of Charles Dickens, in the village of Higham, situated on the outskirts of Rochester, Kent. Our wonderfully happy and vibrant independent day school educates girls and boys aged 3-16 years in the Lower and Upper School. The site boasts modern facilities, courtesy of its main buil

ding, which include a theatre, refectory and sports hall, while also retaining the famous literary heritage of the 18th Century Grade I Listed Gad’s Hill Place, where Dickens lived for the final 14 years of his life, and many of the traditions established since its foundation as a school in 1924.

CCF Summer Camp 2026 🏕️

What an incredible week!

Towards the end of the academic year, our CCF cadets spent four unforgettable days in North Wales, taking on exciting challenges, building confidence and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

From abseiling, gorge scrambling, rock climbing and coasteering to hiking in the Glyderau mountains and soaring at over 100mph on the world-famous Velocity 2 zip wire, every day brought a new adventure.

Throughout the camp, our cadets showed outstanding courage, resilience, teamwork and determination, supporting one another as they embraced every challenge and stepped beyond their comfort zones.

A huge well done to all of our cadets, and thank you to the staff who made this fantastic experience possible. We are incredibly proud of everything you achieved and can’t wait for next year’s camp! 👏

Celebrating GCSE Success at Gad’s Hill School 🎉

We are delighted to celebrate another year of strong GCSE outcomes, with exceptional individual achievements, impressive results across the curriculum and value-added performance that demonstrates the progress our pupils make throughout their time at Gad’s Hill.

Among this year’s highest achievers:

⭐ Carys achieved an outstanding nine Grade 9s and three Grade 8s, alongside her role as a Lead Cadet and extensive involvement with the CCF team.
⭐ Shivam, who joined Gad’s Hill in Nursery, achieved seven Grade 9s and three Grade 8s
⭐ Junior, our outgoing Head of School, achieved five Grade 9s and four Grade 8s alongside his extensive leadership responsibilities

As an academically non-selective school in an area with a large number of grammar schools, we are particularly proud to see our most academically able pupils achieving at the very highest levels, while also benefiting from the pastoral care, leadership experiences and wider opportunities that form such an important part of a Gad’s Hill education.

There were strong performances across the curriculum too, including:

• 56% of Geography grades at Grade 7+
• 56% of History grades at Grade 8+
• 54% of Psychology grades at Grade 7+
• 50% of Computer Science grades at Grade 7+
• 45% of Drama grades at Grade 8+

Beyond the headline grades, our value-added data tells another important part of the story. Comparing GCSE outcomes with nationally benchmarked assessments taken when pupils enter Upper School, this year’s results show significant progress across a number of subjects, including +1.9 grades in History, +1.8 in Drama, +1.4 in Food & Nutrition, +1.3 in Geography and +1.1 in English Literature.

A huge congratulations to every member of the Class of 2026. We are incredibly proud of what you have achieved and wish you every success as you take your next steps.

Last term, J4 had been bringing their imaginations to life in English, inspired by the beautifully illustrated wordless picture book Journey by Aaron Becker.

Using the story as their starting point, pupils planned and wrote their own adventure stories featuring a magical crayon, transporting readers to exciting settings including football stadiums, the clouds and faraway countries.

Throughout the project, J4 challenged themselves to use ambitious vocabulary, direct and indirect speech, and multi-clause sentences to create engaging, descriptive narratives full of personality and adventure.

We are incredibly proud of their creativity, enthusiasm and growing confidence as writers. Why not ask a J4 pupil to retell their magical adventure?

A magical evening to celebrate the end of Kindergarten!🌳

Our K2 pupils recently marked the end of their Kindergarten journey with a special Forest School evening, enjoying den building, campfire songs, s’mores and a Domino’s pizza dinner.

It was the perfect way to celebrate a fantastic year while building confidence, independence and friendships in the great outdoors.

We are so proud of everything our K2 pupils have achieved and can’t wait to see them flourish in the Juniors.

Building confidence through road safety 🚸

Our J5 and Lower Shell pupils recently took part in practical Road Safety sessions with Kent County Council, learning the essential skills needed to become safe and confident pedestrians.

Here’s what some of our pupils had to say:

💬 “I have enjoyed actually going outside of school grounds and practising it on a real road.” – Frankie

💬 “I enjoyed actually crossing roads by myself and being able to remember the rules: stop, think, look, listen and walk whilst still checking left and right.” – Tara

💬 “I love how they went into a lot of detail. Now I know how to properly and safely cross a road.” – Lily

A fantastic opportunity to develop important life skills for the future.

Our Sporting Excellence and Lower fifth GCSE PE students recently returned to Canterbury Christ Church University for another fantastic day exploring the world of sports science 🏃‍♂️

From professional fitness testing in the University’s Sports Lab to an interactive nutrition workshop focused on hydration and performance, students gained hands-on experience of the science behind athletic development while using industry-standard equipment and facilities.

The visit also offered valuable insight into studying Sport and Exercise Science at university, helping students connect their classroom learning with real-world applications.

A huge thank you to Canterbury Christ Church University for another inspiring and engaging experience.
