We are live tonight on Dance Radio UK as The Kent DJ Academy DJs, 6-8pm every Wednesday presenting awesome guest sets from our DJs who have come up through the ranks at the Academy plus special appearances from our DJ tutors. Tonight’s guest DJ is Academy alumni (from way back in 2020) Cheryl Parks aka Miss 1:06 who had since gone on to play radio stations, residences and guest sets. 🎧 WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY — MUSIC IS MORE THAN JUST MUSIC ❤️

Today marks World Mental Health Day, and I wish to reflect on a subject close to my heart: the link between music or DJing, mindfulness, and mental health.

For many, music extends beyond simple listening. It can raise our mood during low moments, offer relief from daily pressures, provide an outlet for feelings, and unite people.

DJing can deliver all of these benefits and more. There is something distinctive about losing oneself in the sound, mastering a new skill, gaining confidence, crafting something personal, and sharing enjoyment with like-minded people and DJs.
(a great example, our post photo is from our last student DJ meet-up 🤗)

Keep in mind that you rarely know what someone may be facing behind the scenes. Even those appearing happiest, most confident, or full of energy might be dealing with hidden struggles.

Whether you are a professional DJ, just beginning, fond of music, or simply needing one song to carry you through the day — do not underestimate the influence music can hold in your life.

And remember, it is acceptable not to be okay. Speaking with someone, checking on a mate, and requesting help when required are signs of strength, not weakness.

We've done some great work with Evan, sharpening up his vinyl skills and exploring DVS and Serato along the way. He's absolutely smashed it. Looking forward to seeing him back next week for a studio session
