🏺✨ From maintenance shed to creative haven!

What was once a humble maintenance shed has been transformed into RIC’s lovely new pottery studio - a light-filled space where students can get stuck in, get their hands dirty and turn ideas into something tangible.

A little more clay, a little more creativity, and another reason why . 🤎

🐾Head Dog Oscar is making the most of his long weekend, but he’s already getting excited for the important bit - students coming back to RIC! 🐶

Our boarders arrive on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd September, with day students returning for their first day on Thursday 3rd. 🎒

Oscar will be ready at the gates for his favourite part of the year: plenty of fuss, new faces and, presumably, a few snacks. 🐾

See you soon, everyone! 👋

🎨 “A school like no other.”

Emily, from Tianjin, China, shares how studying creative subjects at RIC has given her the freedom to explore her love of art - and opened up opportunities she never imagined.

At RIC, students are encouraged to follow their interests, experiment with new ideas and develop their own creative voices. For Emily, that freedom has made her experience about more than simply studying art - it’s about discovering what she loves and where that passion could take her.

A school that lets you be you.

MUSIC & PERFORMING ARTS 🎭🎧

RIC builds Sixth Form pathways around where you want to go - and unusually, we can deliver them in either one intensive year or the traditional two.

Your stage. Your voice. Your vision.

At RIC you can act, compose, perform, produce, dance- or mix creative study with subjects like Drama and Music Technology with traditional academic subjects.

Music moves from Tchaikovsky to trap, combining performance, composition and production. Drama moves from text and theory to devising and live performance. And beyond lessons, students take over professional theatres for full-scale College productions.

There are bands to join, spaces to rehearse, instrumental tuition, LAMDA, performance opportunities and Macs loaded with music production software.

Curtain up.

“What really made me think about space and begin to think about ways to use it was Einstein's statement that there are no fixed points in space. Everything in the universe is moving all the time.”

- Merce Cunningham

From Year 7 through to Sixth Form, we combine high academic standards with a creative, friendly atmosphere where students can really be themselves.

📚 Small classes. 400+ students. 180+ boarders.
Whether you're into science and maths, politics or poetry, astronomy or electronic music or still working it out- you’ll be taught by enthusiastic subject specialists who treat you as an individual. We host the UK Economics Olympiad and our art department won the ISA Award for Excellence and Innovation in Fine Arts. We run a specialist medical school prep programme and a foundation art diploma. No uniforms, no bells - just bags of support and a shared love of learning. And some lovely gardens.

🎨 Creativity runs through everything we do- from our film and design studios to how we think about teaching and learning. Our students go on to top universities and art schools, including all of the G5, but they also leave with confidence, independence, and curiosity.

🌍 Our campus community of day and boarding students is inclusive, international, and welcoming- a place where people respect each other and where it’s easy to make friends, whatever your background or interests. The says: "Pastoral care is exemplary, agrees everyone. Pupils are mature, free-thinking, considerate and good humoured.” We are 60% UK, 40% international and have students with us from 49 different countries.

🎓 Whether you’re joining in Year 7 at the age of 11, looking for a fresh start at GCSE, aiming high in Sixth Form or looking to retake or follow a one year intensive A level course, you’ll find space here to grow- academically, creatively and personally.

🇹🇭 Welcoming our Thai Scholars to RIC

We’re delighted to welcome six Thai Government Scholars to Rochester Independent College for 2026–27- joining a remarkable tradition of Thai Scholars who have studied with us before progressing to some of the UK’s leading universities.

🎓 66 Thai Scholars | 2009–2026

⭐ 97% progressed to Russell Group universities
⭐ 65% progressed to the G5
⭐ 21 to Cambridge
⭐ 6 to Oxford
⭐ 9 to Imperial College London
⭐ 7 to UCL

And in 2026, another RIC Thai Scholar progressed to UCL to study Geology, continuing a record that goes back to 1991 when the first scholars came to Rochester.

Behind those numbers are 66 individual stories: students who came from Thailand to Rochester, became part of our community and went on to extraordinary things.

We’re very proud of that history - and very excited to welcome the next generation. 🇹🇭🇬🇧

We’re incredibly proud of everything Kris has achieved and the hard work that has gone into these fantastic results.

Congratulations, Kris! 🎉

FILM & MEDIA 🎬

RIC builds Sixth Form pathways around where you want to go - and unusually, we can deliver them in either one intensive year or the traditional two.

Watch films. Make films. Pull them apart. Put them back together.

Study cinema from Hollywood to global and experimental filmmaking. Explore how media shapes culture, audiences and ideas. Then make work of your own.

RIC has been teaching Film Studies since the 1990s, and today students can combine Film with Media Studies, Digital Media & Design, Photography, Graphics, English, History of Art and a huge range of other subjects.

Choose a traditional two-year A Level programme or take Film and other subjects through our intensive one-year A Level route.

You'll study in media suites with industry-standard software- and you can make your own short film, learning filmmaking and editing techniques along the way.

RIC film students have progressed to academic film courses at universities including King's, Warwick and Sussex, as well as practical routes at Bournemouth and Ravensbourne.

Film school atmosphere. A Level rigour.
School can be different.

“Cinema substitutes the real world with one that accords with our desires.”
- André Bazin

🎓 GCSEs in Nigeria → A Levels at RIC

Osahar’s journey is a great example of how determination, ambition and the right opportunities can open up new possibilities.

After completing his GCSEs at Children’s International School in Nigeria, Osahar joined RIC to continue his education through A Levels. Moving to a new country and education system is a big step, but he has embraced the experience and made the most of the opportunities available to him. 🌍

From Nigeria to Rochester, his journey is another reminder that there’s no single route to achieving your ambitions.

We’re proud to be part of Osahar’s story and can’t wait to see where his next chapter takes him! 🎓✨

As a college rooted in Rochester’s creative community, we’re proud to support an event that brings art, culture and people together in such a unique setting.

If you’re heading to the Cathedral this summer, make sure you stop by and have a go at the mini golf! ⛳
