Exciting News from Little Acres Preschool! 🥔🌱

Our little gardeners harvested their very first potato crop, growing an amazing 1.57kg of potatoes. After digging them up, the children enjoyed tasting them as part of a delicious roast dinner prepared by our kitchen team. 🍽️✨

From planting to plate, this hands-on experience helped children learn where food comes from, encouraged teamwork, and built a connection with nature.

We’re so proud of our little ones for their hard work and teamwork in this wonderful growing adventure. Here’s to many more green thumbs up! 🌿💚

This month at Little Acres, we celebrated World Environment Day by encouraging children to explore, appreciate and care for the world around them. 🌿🌎

Through outdoor learning, nature-based activities and hands-on experiences, the children had opportunities to be curious, investigate natural materials and develop a deeper understanding of their environment. 🍃🔍

These experiences support children’s development by encouraging them to explore the natural world, communicate their thoughts and ideas, build confidence, work together and develop care and respect for the environment around them. 💚

A lovely reminder of how meaningful everyday experiences can support children’s learning, development and connection with nature. 🌱✨

As May comes to an end, we’re reflecting on National Walking Month and the many ways walking supports children’s learning, wellbeing and development. 👣🌿

From outdoor exploration and listening walks to spotting colours, sounds and signs of the season, walking gives little ones the opportunity to stay active, connect with nature and learn through every step. 🌿🛝

At Little Acres, these everyday moments help children build confidence, curiosity, communication skills and an appreciation for the world around them.

A lovely reminder that learning doesn’t only happen indoors, sometimes, it begins with a walk. 💚

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to an end, we’re reflecting on the small everyday moments that support our little ones’ emotional wellbeing. 💜✨

Across our nurseries, we help children recognise their feelings, build confidence, form friendships and feel safe, valued and understood. 🌈🤝 Through play, stories, creativity, calm routines and time in nature, our little ones learn to express themselves, practise kindness and feel a strong sense of belonging. 🌿🎨📚

Mental health and wellbeing are part of our daily nursery life, not just for one month, but every day! 🤍

Forest School Fun! 🌿

The children had an amazing time at Forest School making their own natural paint using charcoal from the campfire! 🎨🖤 We spoke about different natural resources we could use to create other colours and learned how people in ancient times made paint from nature 🍂🪵🌱

The little ones also created adorable hedgehogs using air-dry clay and sticks collected from fallen branches during our woodland walk. 🦔🍃

For our physical challenge, we had to belly crawl under fallen branches without knocking them down. 💪🌳 The children absolutely loved the challenge… and of course the mud created by the little bit of rain we had. 🌧️🤎

A wonderful week full of creativity, teamwork, adventure and outdoor learning! 🌿✨

🎃 Scarecrow Challenge 2026 🎃

Our nurseries have been getting creative for this year’s Scarecrow Challenge at the Kent Garden Show! 🌾

Dockside Day Nursery and Marina Montessori have each created their own scarecrow for the show, while Little Acres Day Nursery & Pre-School has been holding a fun room challenge to choose which scarecrow will represent them.

Pictured here are some of the wonderful scarecrows created across our settings, each full of colour, character and imagination. ✨

If you would like to vote for your favourite Little Acres scarecrow, you can pop a pebble into the voting box in front of your chosen scarecrow when visiting the nursery.

Please feel free to take photos with the scarecrows, but do take care around them so they stay ready for the show!

If you’re visiting the Kent Garden Show over the weekend of 23rd May, don’t forget to look out for our nursery entries!
