🎈 Two birthdays, one very happy week! 🎈

We’ve had double the birthday celebrations this week, with two very special birthdays to celebrate! ❤️

Of course, no birthday celebration would be complete without candles to blow out… and a homemade birthday cake to share with our friends. 🥳🎂 There is something rather lovely about everyone gathering together, singing Happy Birthday and watching the excitement as those candles are blown out!

And because balance is important, we’ve also been making the most of our garden harvest this week.
The children have picked a fantastic crop of homegrown tomatoes that they have helped to grow and care for — They’ve been enjoying seeing where their food comes from and being involved in growing, picking and tasting it. 🌱🍅

🌻 Jack and the… sunflower?! 🌻

In our books, it’s the beanstalks that grow all the way up to the clouds… but I think our sunflower might be giving them a run for their money! 😂🌱☁️

It has grown so incredibly tall, we’ve been watching it get bigger and bigger, while our beans stayed at fence height and tangled round the bird table !! The children have been busy painting their own beautiful sunflowers — at a much more manageable height! 🎨🌻

🎶 Our latest resource… and I’m rather excited about this one! 🎶

Introducing our giant stretchy music ring! 😍

It may look a little like a giant hair scrunchie 😂 but it’s already proving to be such a fun addition to our singing sessions.

We’ve been bouncing it, stretching it, moving it up and down and working together to the rhythm of our songs. We’re learning lots of new songs too, whilst bringing some of our old favourites back to life — including Row, Row, Row Your Boat 🚣‍♀️🎶

I love resources that are simple but can be used in so many different ways, and this one has already got us singing, moving, listening, using mathematical language , cooperating and having lots of fun together. ❤️🎵😊

Little hands, big imaginations… and sometimes VERY big creations!

Today’s mini-beast discovery was a VERY special one! 🪵🪲❤️

One of the children spotted a woodlouse on the path and, realising it was very likely to get stood on, decided it needed carefully moving.

But then we had the biggest surprise … there were tiny baby woodlice all over his lovely warm hand! 😳🥰

I honestly had no idea that woodlice could have their babies with them like this, so it was fascinating to get such a close-up look. We watched the tiny little creatures wriggling about before making sure they were all safely returned to a more suitable home.

Of course, once you’ve rescued a whole family of woodlice, you can’t possibly leave them nameless… 😂

So far we have Woody, Woods, Tiny Tim, Dot, Midge and Titch… if anybody has any suggestions, there are several more need naming ! 🪲😂

A lovely reminder that sometimes the most fascinating discoveries are right under our feet — quite literally! ❤️🌿

🐌🐌This time last year, we were Dani Natural Education’s very first customers. It was an absolute pleasure to have her join us again today , for another visit with her amazing invertebrates. As you can see from our photos, the children had a fantastic time! 🐌🐌

Sometimes you really don’t need to plan the best learning opportunities, they just happen! 🐌💚
Today, one of the children picked up a toy wood plane only to discover a rather large snail hitching a ride 🐌✈️
We haven’t actually seen many real snails recently with the weather being so hot, so of course it was decided that this one had appeared because it wanted to be part of our display! …. we found him a nice safe spot under one of the bushes 👍

The cabin has had yet another makeover ready for a very special visit later this week! 🐌🌿🔎……

If you look very closely, there are invertibrates hiding in amongst the leaves, hopefully the children will be able to find them all and use the magnifying glasses for some close-up exploring. I even found a few snail shaped fossils for the children to investigate.

After a busy week, I thought we’d enjoy a nice, relaxing boat ride along the Ripon Canal… but it seems there is far more going on down that stretch of water than I realised! 🤣

First, we discovered a washing line full of pirates clothes, then one of the children spotted a sleeping crocodile 🐊💤

The children were so excited when they were given the opportunity to steer the boat, though how Rosie and Jim remained upright and on the seat, I will never know 😳🤣
