At the end of April, we were delighted to welcome our local PCSO, Hannah, into school to talk to all the children about road safety. Hannah was absolutely fantastic with the pupils, who were fully engaged and loved every moment.

Hannah also spoke about her role in the community and answered lots of curious questions. The highlight of the morning was being able to explore and ask questions about her police van. The children were thrilled to climb inside, look around, and even got to hear the sirens.

The children had a fantastic day exploring life in 1666. We began with an enthusiastic discussion about clothing from the period before moving on to how the Great Fire started and the key figures involved. The class loved getting hands‑on with the artefacts flint and stone, ink and quills, bread trays, butter churners and many more items that brought the past to life.

After playtime, we learned about what everyday life and schooling looked like in 1666. The children then had the chance to ask our expert lots of thoughtful questions.

In the afternoon, we switched to art. Reception created beautiful collages, layering black silhouettes over textured backgrounds to form their 1666 London houses. KS1 used watercolours to paint
their backgrounds and added layered shapes to complete their final pieces. The results were wonderful.

We have had a great first couple of weeks back after the Easter break.

Class One had a fantastic day at Studfold Farm and Adventure Trail this week. The children explored fields, forests and rivers as part of our upcoming science topic on Living Things and Their Habitats. They used magnifying glasses to study plants and mini‑beasts, explored touch‑and‑smell boxes, cracked codes, and spent time in the bird hide spotting and sketching different species. We learned about how plants grow, how animals survive in different habitats, and noticed signs of seasonal change using sundials. There was plenty of teamwork too, with den building, puzzles and group challenges. The children (and adults!) had a brilliant day filled with learning, adventure and lots of fun.

We have had a very busy and productive Design and Technology week this week.

Class 1 had to design and make a card with moving parts.

Class 2's brief was to design and create a product featuring a mechanical system, while also combining a range of materials and considering its aesthetic appeal. The children explored how different cams function and how these can be used to produce a variety of movements and effects. They then applied this knowledge to their own designs with great creativity and skill.

The final outcomes were truly impressive and both classes are rightly very proud of their achievements. Fantastic work!

We've had some fantastic sporting opportunities for the children over the last couple of weeks.

On Thursday 19th March, we enjoyed a fantastic taster session with the All Stars and Dynamos cricket team. It was wonderful to see the entire school coming together, playing as a team, and developing their cricketing skills.
We were also delighted to make use of the recreation ground for the first time this year, especially on such a beautiful sunny afternoon. All of the children received special wristbands in recognition of their participation and were warmly invited to join future events if they wish.

On Tuesday 24th March, we had a fantastic time at the Cross Country Festival and were fortunate to avoid the rain. The children showed excellent teamwork and sportsmanship throughout, supporting one another and representing the school with pride. A special mention goes to Abigail, who delivered an outstanding performance, winning her race convincingly against competitors from several other schools. It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning, and we are incredibly proud of all the children

Our Year 5 and 6 pupils then had a fantastic time after school on Tuesday. Following a busy morning at the cross country festival, they showed great resilience as they went on to compete against Fountains and Grewelthorpe in an inter-school dodgeball competition at the village hall. The matches were closely contested and full of excitement, making for a thoroughly enjoyable event. One of the key values in dodgeball is honesty, and our children demonstrated this exceptionally well throughout. Well done to all of Year 5 and 6 for their effort, sportsmanship, and positive attitude.

We are incredibly proud of all of our children.
