The Sheiling Ringwood provides a living, working and learning environment that is comfortable, beautiful and natural, befitting of a home away from home with extensive SEN facilities. Set in a stunning sustainable and eco friendly 45 acre site close to the New Forest and Dorset coastline, the natural surroundings of our school provide a rich, enabling and therapeutic learning environment. We speci

alise in autism and communication difficulties, severe and complex learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. The school offers an individualised and flexible approach to placements. 38 week, day, extended day, weekly, termly and year round boarding. Students are encouraged and supported to become resourceful and caring individuals, to explore the world of feelings, behaviour and values. We focus on building confidence and skills in different environments and social groups, whilst also developing functional independence, in preparation for adult life.

During Careers and Work Experience Week, our college students were busy exploring a range of hands-on workplace skills.

Highlights from the week included time spent learning about small animal care, gaining an understanding of animal welfare and the responsibilities involved in caring for animals. Students also enjoyed a visit from a chef, who helped them develop their kitchen skills and provided an insight into working in the hospitality industry.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our workshops and helped make these experiences so engaging and informative for our students.

We’ve had a fantastic start to the week with a range of hands-on workshops and career experiences for our college students, with some of our school students also getting involved and benefiting from the opportunities on offer.

Students have had the opportunity to learn about careers in hairdressing, lifeguarding, paramedic services, the RNLI, and the Fire Service, gaining valuable insights from industry professionals and exploring the skills needed for these roles.

More interesting and informative activities are planned both on site and at external venues throughout the week, giving students even more experiences to enjoy and learn from.

A huge thank you to all the organisations and professionals who have supported the week so far.

Richard from the Queen's Park & Charminster Neighbourhood Forum, accompanied by Cllr Alasdair Keddie - Queen's Park & Charminster, recently visited The Sheiling Ringwood to tour our beautiful Sheiling Garden and Sensory Garden.

Our garden spaces provided plenty of inspiration for proposed regeneration plans for BCP Council parks and gardens. Hosted by our Head of College, Community Access Coordinator and Work Experience Lead, the visit also gave guests the opportunity to meet our biodynamic gardeners, Gary and Josh, who were on hand to share their expertise and offer practical advice.

As council regeneration plans progress, students from Sheiling College may have the opportunity to support the development and maintenance of new spaces, creating additional community connections and learning opportunities.

Glorious weather made for a perfect visit, it was also a chance to to celebrate the positive impact that accessible, sensory-rich outdoor spaces can have for everyone.

Our independent careers advisor offers college students valuable guidance and support as they begin to explore future pathways.

During her most recent visit, she also spent time with students individually to focus the discussion on their next steps.

This visit also had a twist! Students took on the role of interviewers, putting their questions directly to our careers advisor about their role, career journey and what inspired them to pursue this profession.

Questions were thoughtful, individual and interesting - a great reflection of their curiosity and growing confidence.

Wonderful to see our college students getting hands-on during a bricklaying skills session with Bournemouth and Poole College.

A fantastic collaboration, giving students the opportunity to experience other Further Education providers, build confidence, explore future pathways and support the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Huge thank you to Bournemouth and Poole College for hosting such an engaging session. We’re so proud of how involved, enthusiastic and professional our students were throughout.

This year has been all about celebrating our milestone 75 years of education, care and community and what makes it even more special is that today is our official 75th birthday! A perfect day to share some of the highlights of our Summer Festival 2026.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us to create such wonderful memories. We’ll continue the celebrations as we mark this special milestone year together.
