🍅 From our garden to our little monkeys’ plates! 🥕👩‍🍳

Yesterday’s lunch was a delicious tomato & vegetable risotto, made with tomatoes freshly picked from our very own garden! 🌱🍅

Our children have loved being involved every step of the way — from planting the seeds, watering the plants and watching the tomatoes grow, to finally picking them ready to use in our freshly prepared meals. 🥰

There’s something so special about growing our own food and then enjoying it together! It gives the children the opportunity to learn where food comes from, develop an appreciation for fresh ingredients and, of course, enjoy the fruits (or vegetables! 😉) of their hard work.

Our meals are freshly prepared on site in our own kitchen, and we love making the most of the wonderful produce we can grow right here at Little Monkeys. 💚

☀️🐒 ANOTHER HOT WEEK AHEAD! 🐒☀️

It’s looking like we’re in for another hot week at Little Monkeys, with temperatures particularly rising towards the middle and end of the week! 🌡️☀️

A little reminder to all our lovely parents that every child must come in with a named sun hat and named, weather-appropriate clothing each day. 🧢👕 Please make sure they have everything they need to stay comfortable and cool.

We’ll be making the most of the sunshine while keeping the children safe, happy and comfortable! 💦🌈 We’ll be providing as much shade as possible, ensuring the children are regularly creamed, encouraging plenty of drinks and offering lots of fun, weather-appropriate activities such as water play, sensory play, outdoor games and creative activities. 💧🎨🫧

As always, the children’s safety is our number one priority ❤️ We’ll be doing everything we can to make sure the children have a fun-filled week while staying cool, hydrated and safe during the next predicted heatwave.

We’re incredibly proud to announce that, following a surprise inspection from Environmental Health this morning, Little Monkeys at The Old Cottage has once again retained our ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5-Star Food Hygiene Rating!

This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our amazing team, who go above and beyond every day to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, food safety and care for all of our children.

Providing delicious, nutritious meals in a safe and hygienic environment is something we take great pride in, and we’re delighted that this has been recognised once again. 💚

Nothing beats a fresh, colourful dinner on a hot summer’s day! ☀️🍓🍅

Our little monkeys enjoyed a delicious plate of tomato pasta, served with refreshing cucumber sticks, juicy tomatoes (which were grown by the children in our garden and freshly picked by them!) and sweet, fresh strawberries.

This balanced meal is packed with goodness to help keep little bodies fuelled and hydrated during the warm weather. 🍓 Cucumber and tomatoes have a high water content, helping children stay hydrated, while strawberries are full of vitamin C and antioxidants. The tomato pasta provides energy for all the exploring, learning and fun that fills our days.

Keeping our children well-nourished and hydrated is especially important during the summer, and we’re so pleased to be able to offer fresh, home-cooked meals every day. ❤️

Last week we celebrated a truly special milestone as we said goodbye to our wonderful preschool graduates.

Our beautiful garden was filled with smiles, laughter and proud moments as the children sang so beautifully to their families for one final time before receiving their graduation certificates! It was a day full of memories that we will treasure forever.

It’s hard to put into words just how much this incredible group of children means to us. Watching them grow in confidence, build friendships, discover new skills and develop into the amazing little people they are today has been an absolute privilege. We are so proud of every single one of them and know they are all ready for their exciting next adventure at school.

To all of our wonderful parents, thank you for trusting us to be part of your child’s early years journey. It has been an honour to care for, nurture and support your children, and we are so grateful to have shared so many precious moments with your families.

Congratulations, Class of 2026! 🎓✨

Keep dreaming, keep exploring, keep learning and, most importantly, always believe in yourselves. We know you’ll all achieve amazing things, and we can’t wait to see where your journeys take you.

Dear parents and carers,

Due to the extreme temperatures, the number of children currently unwell, local school closures affecting staffing arrangements, and the high temperatures within our building, I have made the difficult decision to close the nursery for the full day tomorrow.

The health, safety and wellbeing of the children and staff must remain our priority. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and I appreciate your understanding and support.

☀️ Hot Weather This Week ☀️

With temperatures set to rise this week, the safety and wellbeing of our Little Monkeys children remains our top priority. ❤️

We will be taking extra precautions to ensure all children remain happy, comfortable and safe during the heatwave. These measures include:

🧢 All children must bring a named sun hat. Unfortunately, children without a hat will not be able to access outdoor play areas.

🌞 Outdoor play will be carefully managed and we will avoid going outside during peak temperatures and periods of extreme high UV levels.

💧 Encouraging regular drinks of water throughout the day to keep children well hydrated.

☀️ Sun-cream will be applied regularly throughout the day.

🏡 Plenty of indoor cooling activities will be provided, including water play, sensory experiences, arts and crafts, and quiet areas for rest and relaxation.

❄️ Rooms will be kept as cool as possible with good ventilation, fans, curtains closed where appropriate, and regular temperature checks.

👕 Please ensure your child arrives in light, loose-fitting clothing for nursery.

💦 Additional water play and cooling activities will be introduced to help children regulate their body temperature.

🧸 More time will be spent in shaded areas and indoor environments, with strenuous physical activities reduced.

🌡️ Our staff will regularly monitor all children for signs of overheating, including flushed skin, excessive sweating, tiredness, irritability or lethargy, and will act promptly should any concerns arise.

The health and wellbeing of our children is always our priority, and our team will continue to follow current guidance and take all necessary precautions during this period of exceptionally warm weather. ☀️🐒💛
