“I need experience to get the job… but I need the job to get experience.” 🤦

Sound familiar?

It’s one of those career problems that feels a bit like being told:
“You can come in once you’re already inside.”

Very helpful. 😂

But there is something you can control.

Your skills.

Whether you’re looking for your first job, trying to move into a new industry, aiming for a promotion or simply thinking, “I need to do something different”, the right training can help you take the next step with more confidence.

And if you’re an employer, the problem can look completely different:

You advertise a role.
Applications arrive.
You start reading CVs.
And then realise far fewer people have the skills or training you actually need.
That’s where better connections between training and employment matter.

Roman Training & Jobs is being built to make that journey easier.
🔎 Find Training
Search for practical courses and develop skills that can help you move forward.

💼 Apply for Jobs
Discover opportunities and take your next career step.

👥 Staff Training
Help your existing team build the skills your organisation needs.

🛡️ Hire Safely
Find people and build a stronger workforce with greater confidence.

Because sometimes the answer isn’t simply:

“Find more people.”

It’s:

“Help people build the right skills - and make it easier for employers to find them.”

Looking for training, your next opportunity, or support developing your workforce?

Just turned 19? Your next career move could start sooner than you think.

A change to Skills Bootcamp eligibility means eligible young adults can now access this training route from the day they turn 19, rather than potentially waiting until the next academic year.

That could open the door to practical skills training in areas such as:

• Construction
• Digital
• Engineering
• Manufacturing
• Logistics
• Green skills and other employer-led sectors

Skills Bootcamps are designed to help people build skills that employers need, whether you are looking for work, changing career, returning to employment or developing in your current role.

Programmes can generally last up to 16 weeks.

But there is something important to remember:

Being 19 does not automatically mean every Skills Bootcamp is available to you.

Eligibility, availability and programme requirements can vary.
Before choosing a course, ask yourself:

✓ What job am I actually working towards?
✓ What skills will I gain?
✓ Will I need another qualification, licence or card afterwards?
✓ Is the course available in my area?
✓ What progression support does it offer?

A funded training option can be valuable - but the right course for your career is more important than choosing something simply because it is funded.

And this matters to employers too.

Skills Bootcamps can also support businesses looking to upskill existing employees or recruit people with new skills, although local availability, eligibility and employer contributions can vary between programmes.

At Roman Training & Jobs, our focus is helping learners and organisations look at the bigger picture:

The role you need → the skills required → the right qualification or training route → the next step.

Whether you are starting your career, changing direction or planning training for your workforce, start with the outcome you need -then find the training route that helps you get there.

Are you planning staff training or apprenticeships for the months ahead?

The funding rules have changed - so it may be time to check your workforce plan.

From August 2026, new apprenticeship funding arrangements are in place in England.

For employers, this can affect:

✓ How levy funds are used
✓ What happens when levy funds run out
✓ Employer co-investment
✓ Funding available for different apprentice groups
✓ Which apprenticeship standards continue to receive government funding

There is also an important change coming for employers in facilities management and security.

From 1 September 2026, government funding will end for new starts on several apprenticeship standards, including:

• Facilities Management Supervisor
• Professional Security Operative

Existing apprentices who started before the funding cut-off can continue to be funded through completion, and the standards can remain available for privately funded delivery.

So the question for employers should not simply be:

“What training can we get funded?”

A better starting point is:

What skills does our organisation need?
Which employees need developing?
Is an apprenticeship the right route?
Could another form of staff training close the skills gap more effectively?

At Roman Training & Jobs, we believe training decisions should start with the outcome your organisation needs.

Whether you are looking to develop existing employees, address skills gaps or review your wider workforce-training requirements, understanding the available options can help you make a more informed decision.

Thinking about getting into construction - or training people for site-based roles?

There has been an important change to construction training funding.

From August 2026, eligible learners taking certain Level 2 or Level 3 construction qualifications may be able to have the cost of their CSCS card application and associated health and safety test funded.

That could make the journey into construction more affordable for some learners - but there is an important point:

Not everyone automatically qualifies.

Your eligibility can depend on:

✓ The qualification you are taking
✓ Your individual circumstances
✓ Where you live
✓ The funding available through your training provider
✓ The type of CSCS or associated card relevant to your role

So before booking the first course advertised as a “funded CSCS” option, start with the job you actually want.

Ask yourself:

What role am I working towards?
What qualification do I need?
Which card is right for that role?
What costs are actually included?

For employers, the same principle applies.

If you are recruiting new entrants, developing existing employees or planning training across several sites, understanding the right combination of training, qualifications, card requirements and funding can help you make better use of your workforce-development budget.

At Roman Training & Jobs, our focus is helping individuals and organisations find the training route that fits the outcome they actually need - rather than simply choosing a course because funding may be available.

Skills shortages aren’t only a recruitment problem. They’re a training problem too.

A new report from Skills England has highlighted something every employer should be thinking about.

More than a quarter of job vacancies are reported as difficult to fill because of skills shortages.

And as demand grows across areas such as construction, digital, engineering, clean energy and social care, simply waiting for the right people to appear may not be enough.

For businesses, the question is becoming:

Do we recruit the skills we need - or develop more of them within the workforce we already have?

A good workforce plan should consider:

✓ Which skills are becoming harder to recruit?
✓ Which employees could progress with the right training?
✓ Where could short, targeted learning close a skills gap?
✓ Which qualifications or competencies will the business need
next?
✓ Are staff being prepared for changing technology and ways of working?

For individuals, the message matters too.

The strongest career opportunities increasingly come from understanding which skills employers need and continuing to build those skills throughout your working life.

That is exactly why Roman Training & Jobs is being developed around the connection between skills, work and workforce development.

VE Day

A Time to Reflect & Honour

Today, we remember Victory in Europe Day, marking the end of World War Il in Europe on 8 May 1945.

We honour the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who served, those who gave everything, and those who waited at home.

At Roman, we're proud to support individuals and organisations working towards a better, safer future.

Let their legacy remind us of the importance of peace.

Let us never forget.
