What a fantastic summer term!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to our amazing pupils, dedicated staff, supportive families and everyone in the wider school community including Friends of York House.

📚 No two pupils learn the same way. At York House we keep students engaged by incorporating multiple learning styles and types of lesson into our curriculum.

At York House, our goal is to give your child the best possible preparation for their future. Outdoor education is a vital part of this commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals.

We do this through a diverse range of activities including caring for animals in our smallholding, campouts, lake fishing, mountain biking, outdoor lessons, sport and more. Developing key skills including problem-solving, teamwork, communication, resilience, risk management, coordination and emotional awareness.

Classics at York House aims to excite and inspire pupils about the Classical World. It is a unique subject that encompasses many different disciplines and helps us to understand the past, while also informing our comprehension of language.

Beginning in Year 3 with Greek Mythology Club, there is an emphasis in the Lower School on acting out myths from Ancient Greece and understanding the key meanings behind them.

Through Minimus, pupils in Year 4 also begin to learn Latin, from which over half of English vocabulary is derived, through simple phrases that link to English .

In Years 5 and 6, the emphasis turns to understanding the mechanics of Latin, including cases and verb tenses, as well as studying epic stories such as the Trojan War and the Odyssey.
