World Cup fever hit Holmedale today! Team Croatia took on Team England in a friendly (well apart from the 4 yellow cards). Both teams played amazingly with some great dribbling and fantastic goalkeeping, but thankfully with a last minute winner England won 1-0! it’s an omen for tonight!

This week has all been about making silage at Holmedale! After the boys built a silage pit on Monday, the grounds maintenance team arrived to cut our grass on Tuesday. This led to the children working together to gather the grass up quickly and transport it to the silage pit quickly before the rain came! Unfortunately, we’ve had a couple of minor bumps and bruises this week, but
luckily there were doctors on hand in “Holmedale hospital”, and the injuries were soon attended to!

A busy end to the last half term and a busier start to this half term! When we heard some noisy trucks along the road, of course we went to investigate… and found they were resurfacing the road. The children loved watching them transfer the gravel from one truck to another, had an outdoor snack whilst we waited to see the man blowing the road clean and watching the roller. A birthday started the new half term off nicely, some amazing creations using loose parts and a bee safely rescued and revived.

Lots of creativity and construction this week as the children arranged, built and balanced a whole variety of open ended resources, both indoors and outdoors. It’s great to watch their ideas develop!

This week we were given some farm machines… (thank you Harvey - the children LOVE them!). The children worked very hard to clean them all and the boys have been very busy spreading slurry, fertiliser and transporting water this week! The girls used them to transport the boys!😂
The children noticed how pretty our tree is now it’s covered in blossom and have been using their creative skills to make their own pictures of the tree. Some of the children added the blue tit they spotted in it too!
The children were excited to find a snail in the garden too so we used our bug book to learn all about snails.🐌

Wall to wall sunshine this week, so LOTS of outdoor play..
The children enjoyed watching all the farm machines going past, which sparked a discussion around what farmers are doing in their fields at this time of year.. As we don’t have a stonecrusher like the one we saw go past, the boys picked the stones by hand and moved them off the grass with their trailers!
It was very hot work but luckily the children were able to cool down with an ice cream from the ice cream parlour!
Holmedale veterinary surgery was popular with the girls.. lots of injured dogs needing attention!

The Children have all enjoyed the lovely sunshine this week… they’ve made an ice-cream shop in the sand tray, erupting volcanoes and put on a fabulous outdoor concert for us to watch!

The last week of term is always a busy one and that was definitely the case last week! The children enjoyed a 4th birthday celebration, ”Messy Church”, Easter nest baking, Easter bunny mask making, our decorated Easter egg competition, and an Easter egg hunt! The children also loved exploring the school outdoor equipment! Happy Easter to you all! 🥚 🐣

Last week the children were fascinated by some frogspawn which had been rescued. They looked at it closely and learnt about the life cycle of a frog, as well as listening to lots of stories about tadpoles and frogs. For some children the highlight was the BIG tractor and trailer which came into the school yard! We also celebrated a birthday with cake! 🎂 🐸 🚜 (the Frogspawn was carefully returned to a safe water place where we can monitor its development).
