We are thrilled to announce the launch of Musical Roots After-School Club starting in September, held every Wednesday after school at RMS – led by the Music Mill, Sarah Millman and Katie Rawson.

This is a fantastic chance for children to:
- Learn and explore a variety of instruments 🎸🥁🎹
- Play music with friends in a fun, creative environment
- Build confidence and find a passion for music
- Develop musical skills, theory, and ensemble playing

No experience is needed, just enthusiasm and curiosity!

This week in Silverdale, we have continued our life cycle learning by exploring the fascinating life cycle of a butterfly. Our favourite story this week has been The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. Inspired by the story, we created some wonderful caterpillars using potato printing.

The children have been amazing at remembering each stage of the butterfly life cycle and confidently naming them all. We are so proud of how much they have learned!

This week in Ribblesdale we have continued sharing books that link to our natural world. We have enjoyed The Woolly Bear Caterpillar, The Cautious Caterpillar, My Butterfly Bouquet, All About Ladybirds and What the Ladybird Heard. These stories inspired us to look closely at the life cycles of butterflies and ladybirds, exploring the amazing changes they go through as they grow. The children also enjoyed helping to name and label the different body parts of these fascinating mini beasts.

On Tuesday, we loved having everyone together for our Nursery Leavers’ Event and Summer Stay and Play. It was wonderful to share some of our favourite memories from the past year. 🎶 Our fantastic nursery leavers made us incredibly proud with their beautiful singing. 🎶 Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this special occasion.

In maths, we have been consolidating our learning about repeating patterns. The children have enjoyed creating, continuing and identifying repeating patterns using a range of resources, 2D and 3D shapes and natural objects.

In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have continued our Literacy Tree text ‘Iggy Peck Architect’. We have been discussing and designing our dream home. Their designs have included rainbow houses, Liverpool colours, houses shaped like footballs or animals and have included tennis courts 🎾 , football pitches ⚽️ and swimming pools 🏊!

In maths we have been using our problem solving skills to work out how many animals or people could fit in Mr Gumpy’s boat. We could only have 8 legs in the boat and we worked out all the different combinations of animals and people that could be in the boat. The children then had a go at drawing their own boats and combinations of animals to make 8 legs in the boat.

This week in Silverdale, we have embraced the summer weather by exploring all things summer!

We have enjoyed reading a selection of lovely stories, including When It Is Summer, Seasons: Summer, and Busy Holiday, which sparked lots of conversations about the season and the exciting activities that come with it.

To help us stay cool in the warm weather, the children have loved taking part in lots of water play. We have also been discussing how to stay safe in the sunshine, including the importance of wearing sun hats, applying sun cream, drinking plenty of water, and finding shade when needed.

This week, Ribblesdale have enjoyed sharing several new stories, including The Most Magnificent Thing, Jabari Tries, Elephant Island and Iggy Peck, Architect.

As part of our Design and Technology focus on Creating with Materials, the children have explored a range of construction and recycled materials to design and build their own flying machines, amazing boats and many other wonderful creations using K’NEX construction sets.

In Maths, we have revisited our learning on numbers to 6. The children have enjoyed counting and subitising activities, using these skills to help solve a variety of mathematical problems.

We have also made the most of the gorgeous weather by taking part in lots of ice-themed activities and water play. We have continued to enjoy visits to our wonderful forest area, where we have been able to keep cool and enjoy some shade while exploring the outdoors.

This week in Swaledale & Malhamdale we had our school trip to Raby Castle. We had a lovely walk around the deer park in the sunshine and we lucky to see lots of deer 🦌. Due to the high temperatures we are kindly allowed to eat our lunch in the castle servants quarters and we finished the day with a tour around the castle. Some of the children even got knighted!

We have continued our Literacy tree text Oi Frog. The children have enjoyed acting out the story as the frog and cat. They are really good at joining in with the rhyming words. In maths we are consolidating our odd and even numbers. This week we drew odd monsters, we could only decorate the monsters with an odd number of items and one child drew a monster with 9 legs!

This week in Silverdale, we have been learning about different types of machines. We enjoyed reading books about the machines used to build houses.
We have spent lots of time outside in our sandpit. We especially enjoyed creating a water slide for the cars.
After reading Diggersaurus, the children used a variety of resources to create homes for the dinosaurs, showing great imagination and creativity.

This week in Ribblesdale we have enjoyed reading several books including An Engineer Like Me, Terrific Trains and Mrs Armitage on Wheels. This inspired the children to use loose parts, various construction materials and reclaimed resources to build their own aeroplanes, trains and a range of machines. They have explored using tools for a purpose and demonstrated great creativity, problem-solving skills and perseverance in their designs.

On Wednesday we really enjoyed taking part in all the different Sports Day activities and were super excited to have our grown-ups come and watch! The children showed fantastic enthusiasm, determination and teamwork throughout the event.

The children also loved helping to make elderflower cordial. They enjoyed exploring the flowers and learning about the process of making the cordial. We are all really looking forward to tasting it next week!
In maths, we have been looking at what number comes after, and the children have been practising counting forwards and identifying the next number in a sequence. They have enjoyed taking part in a range of practical activities and games to help develop their confidence with number recognition and counting skills.

In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have started our new Literacy Tree text ‘Oi Frog’. We found the story hilarious and the children have had great fun retelling the story. We have focused on rhyming words and have written fantastic rhyming phrases.

In maths we have been looking at sharing. We have been sharing equally making sure all groups have the same amount. We have enjoying doing this practically and sharing items out with our friends.

This week in Silverdale, we enjoyed reading When We Grow Up, The Growing Story, and My Grandpa/My Granny.

We have been learning about growing up and looking back at photographs from when we were babies. The children had great fun trying to guess who was who and enjoyed talking about how they have changed as they have grown.

On Thursday, we followed the children's interests by creating a dinosaur-themed small world area. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring a variety of materials and using their imaginations as they played and discovered together.

It was lovely to welcome everyone back after the half-term break, and we have enjoyed hearing all about what the children got up to.

In Ribblesdale this week, we shared the wonderful history-focused books What Makes a Family? and All Kinds of Families. We also enjoyed learning about Florence Nightingale and discussing her important contributions to nursing.

As part of our Mental Health Day theme, ‘Try Something New’, the children enjoyed helping to chop and prepare a variety of fruits to make their own fruit kebabs. They then enjoyed tasting their creations at afternoon snack.

In maths, we have been exploring the composition of numbers and developing our understanding of how numbers can be made in different ways.

In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have started our new Literacy Tree text ‘Izzy Gizmo’. Izzy is an inventor and we have been looking at some of her amazing inventions. We picked our favourite invention and wrote about what went wrong with it. We have looked at other inventors including Rowland Emett and his inventions.

As part of RMS Mental Health day we have been trying new foods. We tried lots of new foods and and graded how we felt about them. It can be scary to try new things so we were very proud of all the children for tasting the foods.

In maths we have been looking at doubles. We used mirrors to double our items.

This week in Silverdale, we have been exploring and learning all about the world around us 🌍

The children especially loved moving their bodies to music from different countries and cultures around the world.

We explored a world map to discover where different animals live, created some fantastic world-themed pictures using paint and conkers, and made some lovely postcards too.

Our favourite activity this week has been using the special blocks featuring pictures of our town and the children in nursery. The children were so excited to find and show their friends their very own picture block!

This week in Ribblesdale, we have enjoyed sharing the lovely stories Who Lives Here?, Where Do I Live?, Town Mouse and Country Mouse and Katie in London. This has allowed us to discuss our own homes and the beautiful countryside we live in, before comparing it to city life. The children have also learned about some of the famous landmarks in London.

It was lovely to share the children’s photos of their homes and places they have visited near Richmond, and we even managed to see photos of children visiting London too.

In Maths, we have moved on to exploring 3D shapes. The children have been learning to recognise and name different 3D shapes, describe their properties and identify them in the world around us.

In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have been reading beanstalk stories including Jack & the Beanstalk, Jim & the beanstalk and Jack & the Jelly beanstalk. We story-mapped the original story before having a go at writing about it. We were so impressed with the children’s writing. They wrote fabulous stories!

In maths we have been looking at addition. We have done this using First, then and now stories. We looked at how many dinosaurs we had first, how many had come along to play and how many we had now.

This week in Silverdale, we have been talking about why it is important to look after our oceans and continuing to explore art.

We have enjoyed reading The Snail and the Whale, The Clumsy Crab, Elmer, and Wow! Said the Owl.

The children have loved getting creative by making wiggly jellyfish and colourful Elmer pictures.

We also explored different sea creatures and used our bodies to move like crabs during our activities.

This week in Ribblesdale, we have been exploring a range of art-focused books, including The Day the Crayons Quit, I Am an Artist, Nature is an Artist and How to Paint a Rainbow. These stories have inspired lots of creativity across the classroom.

The children have been busy creating their own self-portraits, using natural materials to make artwork, and have produced some beautiful rainbow creations.

During our Forest School session, they especially enjoyed making wax rubbings from tree bark, discovering different textures in nature.

In maths, we have started learning about 2D shapes and their properties, and the children are beginning to recognise and describe a variety of shapes with growing confidence.

In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have continued our Literacy Text ‘Lost and Found’. We have been learning about penguins and other Antarctic animals. We have been drawing penguins and writing our favourite facts.
This week in RE we welcomed the lovely Rev Kathleen. She taught us about Baptism and welcoming babies into the Methodist Church. We enjoyed hearing about baptism ceremonies and had our own ceremony where we baptised Sophie the teddy bear.
In maths we have been continuing our work on numbers beyond 20 and working on counting on from a number. We have been working on putting the number in our head and counting on using a number line.

This week in Silverdale, we’ve been exploring all things art. 🎨

We enjoyed reading ‘I Am an Artist’, ‘The Colour Monster’, ‘Colour and Me’, and ‘The Crayons’ Book of Colours’.

We also developed our fine motor skills through activities such as threading, using gator grabbers, and making marks in the sand.

Inspired by I Am an Artist, we created our own outdoor artwork using natural materials like shells, sand, sticks, and leaves.

We’ve made the most of the lovely sunshine and have really enjoyed spending most of our time outside. ☀️

This week in Ribblesdale, we have been enjoying a range of lovely stories including Mix It Up!, Elmer, Luna Loves Art and Beautiful Oops!.

As part of our art focus, we explored colour mixing and learned about the work of famous artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, Wassily Kandinsky and Vincent Van Gogh. This inspired us to create our own artwork, experimenting with colours, patterns, and different techniques.

We especially loved our Forest School session, where we were inspired by Andy Goldsworthy’s natural art. The children created some amazing pieces using materials found in nature, showing great creativity and imagination.

In maths, we have been learning about “more than” and “fewer than,” developing our understanding through practical activities and discussions.

🐧 In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have started our new Literacy text ‘Lost and Found’. 🐧
We found a lost penguin in our classroom, we wondered how it got there and discussed what we could do to help. The children wrote letters to the little boy to advise him how to help the penguin get home.

In maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of numbers from 11 to 20. We have looked at pictorial representations and matched them to the numerals.

In Art we have been looking at the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh. We have talked about his famous artwork including Starry Night 🌌 and Sunflowers. 🌻 Looking at his paintings of flowers inspired us to try painting our own still life pictures. We have started with painting tulips. 🌷
