RICHMOND U15 GIRLS CROWNED AREA CUP CHAMPIONS!

Thank you to Miss McFall for this report:

“Richmond U15 Girls were recently crowned Area Cup champions with a superb 4-1 victory, despite half the team playing out of position, including a makeshift goalkeeper.

Richmond took the lead when Pippa pushed forward and scored from a corner. Chloe then doubled the advantage with a powerful strike to make it 2-0. Easingwold responded to pull one back, but Daisy, sporting her new pink boots, settled any nerves with two quick-fire goals to extend the lead to 4-1.

It was a comfortable win in the end and a fantastic team performance to secure the trophy.

A special mention goes to Year 8 players Charlee S, Orla N and Maddie L, who answered a last-minute call, scrambling kit and jumping on the coach with less than 10 minutes' notice. All three stepped up brilliantly and made vital contributions to the team's success.

Congratulations to the team on a fantastic cup final win!”

YEAR 11 PROM 2026

Yesterday saw the Year 11 Class of 2026 celebrate at their Prom. The evening started with a fantastic range of arrivals, from scooters, motorbikes and Mad-Max off roaders, to Ferraris, rally cars, tractors, lorries and horses.

The hall had been decorated with a tropical ‘A Night in Rio’ theme and looked fantastic. Students danced the night away, enjoyed fish and chips from Lockey’s fabulous chip van, and enjoyed the customary presentations.

Thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of this year’s Prom, and special thanks to the students for making it such a fantastic evening. You all looked absolutely amazing, and we look forward to seeing you again in August for GCSE results day!

FRENCH TRIP 2 – FINAL UPDATE!

Thank you to Mme Cheesbrough for this final report:

ROYAL LIFE SAVING SOCIETY – DROWNING PREVENTION WEEK: 13TH - 20TH JUNE

The theme of the assemblies being delivered to Year 7 – 10 this week is water safety. This coincides with the Royal Life Saving Society’s Drowning Prevention Week initiative.

The focus will be knowing how to recognise when water can be dangerous and what to do if someone gets into difficulty. One of the key messages is prevention. Young people are encouraged to speak up if the situation doesn’t feel right, preventing problems.

The RLSS has provided a series of uncompromising messages and images that we will share throughout this week on our social media.

One dare.
One jump.
One “it’ll be fine.”
That’s all it takes.
Be the mate who says: Nah, not worth it.

FRENCH TRIP 2 – FOURTH UPDATE!

Thanks to Esme D and Grace H for this report:

“At breakfast a mouse popped in to say hi!

Breakfast was followed by packing our bags to get ready for the long day ahead.

First, we went to the biscuit factory where we got to try their butter biscuits - they were delicious.

Afterwards, we went into the shop and bought some of the biscuits and tried a few different flavors. Mr Randall and Mr Shami bought loads.

Then we went to the high ropes where there were different levels, 1-8, which most people went on - even Mr Randall and Mr Shami.

After the high ropes, we went to get a drink or ice cream/ice lollies, then we headed to the bus and drove to bowling.

As soon as we got to bowling, we teamed up into 7 teams of 7 people. Everyone was fair and there were no arguments. Mr Shami wanted to defeat all the teachers but, sadly, he didn't - Mr Randall did.

Straight after bowling we headed to have some dinner which was gammon and chips with the choice of ketchup or mayo. After the main dinner we had dessert which was a pastry with apple.

As soon as dinner finished, we went to pack our bags for the ferry. Once our bags were done we had some free time and played outside.”

Mrs Bainbridge added: “The students have all had a brilliant day today and have fully thrown themselves into all the activities. They've packed their bags and tidied their rooms tonight, ready for us leaving the centre in the morning after breakfast.”

NORTH YORKSHIRE SPORT WELLBEING FESTIVAL – WHAT A DAY!

Thank you to Mrs Southgate for the following report:

“Despite relentless rain, our incredible Year 8 and 9 girls threw themselves into a full day of fun, movement and creativity at the North Yorkshire Sport Wellbeing Festival at Dalby Forest. Their enthusiasm never dipped for a moment — even when the weather tried its best to dampen spirits!

The festival offered a brilliant mix of activities including a vibrant colour run, Kinball, dance, arts and crafts, circus skills, and the ever‑popular inflatable obstacle courses. Every student showed outstanding positivity, teamwork and determination from start to finish.

A special shout‑out goes to the fantastic group of Year 10 leaders from Richmond School, who were invited to run the Kinball sessions. They demonstrated exceptional leadership, communication and confidence — guiding younger students, encouraging teamwork, and keeping the energy high throughout the day. Their professionalism and enthusiasm were a credit to the school.”

DUKE OF EDINBURGH EXPEDITION 2026 – AND FAREWELL TO MR POTTER!

Thank you Mrs Wardle for the following report:

“Last weekend over 80 Year 10 students took on the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition in Swaledale. With varying routes from Reeth up to the overnight camp at Rukin’s Park Lodge campsite, Keld, all students were in good spirits and looking forward to the weekend ahead.

All students worked well within their teams demonstrating excellent teamwork as they helped split packs for those who needed to lighten the load and encouraging each other on to complete the trek to Keld.

All made camp in good time. Their assessors watched them camp and cook, to ensure they could be self-sufficient and had made good food choices to fuel the walk back to Reeth the following day.

On the Monday after the expedition, we received a lovely email from two walkers who met many Richmond D of E students during the day on Sunday: “I hope you don’t mind me e-mailing but I just wanted to let you know how lovely, polite and friendly all the young people were who we met walking from Keld to Reeth on Sunday.

My sister and I are doing the Coast 2 Coast and met quite a few of your Duke of Edinburgh groups, both the lads and girls - they were so pleasant, despite a few of them grimacing a bit towards the end!!
In particular, there was one young girl who ran quite a way to catch up with us who had picked up my sister’s glasses case that had dropped off her rucksack without us knowing. The case had her very expensive sunglasses in it, so she was extremely grateful to get them back - unfortunately we didn’t get her name, but we did thank her profusely - you obviously have a great set of young people at your school. Young people these get a lot of criticism, so we felt it only right to contact you to congratulate you and your youngsters.”

What a brilliant reflection on the approach and attitude of our students during the weekend – well done to them!

During the evening, Richmond School & Sixth Form College, Marrick Priory and the Scouts made presentations of thanks to Tony Potter, who retires this year. Under his leadership the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme has grown significantly, with over 700 students walking in the Yorkshire Dales around Richmond, in all weathers, under his care. The students were highly appreciative of his dedication and commitment and will remember their DofE time with much fondness.”

4-2. WAS IT THE CUPCAKES?

Early yesterday morning, Shane Cosstick, one of Richmond School's brilliant catering staff, decorated 200 cupcakes with a chocolate football and an England flag in celebration of the evening's match against Croatia.

As we know, England won 4-2.

Coincidence?

We will never know, but we look forward to Tuesday's match against Ghana!
