Benedict's Law is coming to England this September – is your school prepared?
From September 2026, schools in England will be expected to have robust allergy safety measures in place under what's become known as Benedict's Law.
The changes follow the tragic death of five-year-old Benedict Blythe and aim to make schools safer for children living with severe allergies.
The new requirements include:
✅ A whole-school allergy policy
✅ Staff trained to recognise and respond to allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
✅ Access to emergency adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs)
✅ Individual allergy action plans for pupils who need them.
Although these changes will only apply to England, it's something we should all be paying attention to.
Similar measures could well be introduced in Wales in the future, and regardless of legislation, having staff who understand allergies and know how to respond in an emergency can make a life-saving difference.
At CJJ Training, we believe that good training and preparation help create safer environments for everyone.

We’re doing a soft launch of this for now, but for friends and colleagues who might find it useful:
Have you ever considered how many first aiders or first aid kits you have in your workplace, but not whether you actually have enough?
Or perhaps you’ve felt that your organisation could be doing more, but struggled to clearly quantify or justify this to decision-makers?
If so, we now have an official calculator based on Health and Safety Executive guidance to help assess your needs.
You can try it here, and please feel free to share the link with anyone who might benefit from it.
