It was great working recently with the Abergele Youth Den and The Little Learning Company Limited Grow programme, especially with their enthusiasm.

We're looking forward to being back with them soon for further training to help them get ahead in the job market and improve their skillsets!

A massive well done to the 10 young people who achieved their Emergency First Aid at Work certificate last week - what a great way to start this Grow course!

This is a really exciting step for us and will allow us to offer even more courses, greater flexibility and a dedicated space for practical, hands-on training.

Train • Prepare • Be Safer

Some big updates coming up that we can't wait to share, but first off the most serious of them.

Benedict's Law has now come into force in England, mandating that every member of staff in both primary and secondary schools in England must have Anaphylaxis and Asthma training - and also stated that a normal first aid/paediatric first aid qualification doesn't satisfy the government criteria.

Around 20% of anaphylaxis incidents in schools are in children with no previous history of anaphylaxis!

Thankfully, our awarding body has been quick to release a qualification that does satisfy the guidelines, and have provided the video attached to explain more.

But!

Whilst this is currently only for England, there is a large expectation it will be coming here in Wales as well, but most importantly, this is important enough that legislation or not, we think it is so important there is no harm in getting ahead of the curve.

This is an in person course, with relevant practical training and a level 3 qualification at the end of the 2 hour session.

Allergic reactions can quickly become life-threatening. Knowing what to look for and how to respond could change someone’s life when it matters most.

Benedict’s Law marks a significant step for allergy safety in schools, strengthening the focus on staff training, allergy policies, access to emergency adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) and individual care plans.

Our NEW Level 3 Award in Allergy and Anaphylaxis Awareness (RQF) is designed for staff and volunteers working in schools and education settings who may be responsible for recognising and responding to an allergic reaction.

Responding to anaphylaxis with the right knowledge, preparation and confidence to respond quickly and effectively is essential for the safety and well-being of children and young people.

Benedict's Law is coming to England this September – is your school prepared?

From September 2026, schools in England will be expected to have robust allergy safety measures in place under what's become known as Benedict's Law.

The changes follow the tragic death of five-year-old Benedict Blythe and aim to make schools safer for children living with severe allergies.

The new requirements include:
✅ A whole-school allergy policy
✅ Staff trained to recognise and respond to allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
✅ Access to emergency adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs)
✅ Individual allergy action plans for pupils who need them.

Although these changes will only apply to England, it's something we should all be paying attention to.

Similar measures could well be introduced in Wales in the future, and regardless of legislation, having staff who understand allergies and know how to respond in an emergency can make a life-saving difference.
