Fun Days Nursery

Today we held another little “Family Stay & Play” session❤️ In small groups we invite our families into the setting, Giving them the opportunity to come & spend an hour or so with their child’s room staff, their child & get hands on in all of the fun & learning 🫶🏼

These opportunities help us build positive working relationships with the children’s families, which is super important to us🫶🏼 it also helps the children have a sense of belonging, settle in & share their favourite activities with their families. Helping their family to understand and be apart of their nursery day too🥰

We love little mornings like this. We’re very grateful to all of our families for the support, always. We look forward to the next session 🫶🏼

These last two days have been the perfect example of ‘responsive practice’ - It started with the story - “Pumpkin Soup” which led to us outside yesterday in the garden, making ‘autumn soup’ filled with leaves, pumpkin seeds, autumn coloured water and twigs 🍂🧡

While doing this one of the children said “Can we cook the soup on a real fire?” 🔥
So, we stopped, we chatted, we planned & the next day .. Here it was!

A recipe, a pile of vegetables, ingredients, a fire pit & a large pan to cook it in 🧡

The children were so excited. They listened to and followed safety rules, they helped to chop, peel and prepare & then .. we cooked it! We watched it boil and bubble on the fire. Then we blended it, cooled it down & tasted it 😋 the children thought it was super yummy! (And so did the staff) 🥰

Oh & of course we read the story again while sat around the fire 🧡

This afternoon our ‘Creative Station’ was set up with the simplest of resources. Paper & a tray of brightly coloured paint 🎨.. No paint brushes or mark making tools .. Just the invitation to get creative & messy with their hands 🥰

As you can see .. this was very much a welcomed sensory experience ✨

Mark making, colour mixing, expressing themselves, getting creative, strengthening their senses, trial & error, problem solving, communicating & simply, just having fun❤️

Don’t mind us, we’re just busy building & creating a world of our own right here in our back garden 🫶🏼

Waterproofs, wellies & imagination — that’s all we needed! From digging in the sand and splashing through puddles to building obstacle courses, balancing, exploring & creating our own adventures… there was so much to discover! ❤️

Making the most of every opportunity to be curious, creative & confident learners, because sometimes, the best adventures are the ones we create ourselves… 🌿🪵💦🏗️✨

At first glance you’ll probably & quite simply see a pile of blocks scattered all over the floor & Technically, you’d be right✨

But, if you look a little closer you’ll see .. That these blocks became “a tunnel. It’s really dark inside. I can add light” ✨

You’ll see that these blocks were used for problem solving. Stacking different shapes and sizes in different ways. Does this fit? Will this balance? If I balance this, will it still spin?🤔

You’ll see that these blocks became a “big tower”, “a castle”, “a gym” - These blocks represent the children’s imagination ❤️

You’ll also see the children developing a wide range of skills. Strengthening their fine mirror skills and coordination. Developing their understanding of ‘action and positional words’, Communicating ideas, Recognising shape, colour and incorporating number.

So, we hope you see. That something so simple can provide the children with an endless amount of learning possibilities.. Learning through play. The very best way❤️

Today we had the pleasure of sitting in the sunshine while enjoying the story for the first time & Honestly .. We love it 🥹❤️

10/10 for us❤️ & a new favourite to add to our never ending book collection ✨
