Reigate College A specialist Sixth Form College Reigate College is a sixth form college that prides itself on providing high quality education to 16-19 year olds.

The College offers a wide range of GCE A Levels and BTEC Level 3 courses.

Congratulations to all the Upper Sixth students who received their A Level results (or equivalent) today and have now secured places at universities or nailed down result-dependent apprenticeship schemes or offers of employment.

Reigate College students once again received outstanding A Level results, with 61.1% achieving high grades A* to B and 84.5% achieving A* to C.

Some of our headline figures:
* 82.5% of students achieved at least one high grade (A*-B or Distinction*-Distinction)
* Over 100 students received a clean sweep of all A or A* grades, for all 3 or 4 of their A Levels
* 444 students achieved a full house of A* to B for A Level or Distinction/Distinction* for BTEC
* 12 students have had offers confirmed for Medicine or Veterinary Science, with 80% of those receiving offers, gaining places
* 100% of all students who did the triple in Performing Arts (3 A Level equivalent) achieved a high grade (Distinction/Distinction*)

Our students received places on the most competitive courses and at top universities including Oxford and Cambridge and other prestigious, Russell Group universities.

A growing number of students are opting for high-quality apprenticeship programmes and carefully targeted career areas, thanks in part to the specialist support they receive through our excellent Career Pathways Programme.

Collectively, these awards recognise and celebrate a full range of achievements.

Biosciences pathway students had a taste of life as a master’s student at Exeter University from past student Josh Reed (23 June).

Josh originally thought he’d study Marine Biology but changed his mind, preferring to keep things broader with an MSci in Biological Sciences. His informative talk covered both the academic and social side of uni life, including how to choose between applying for a master’s from the get-go or applying at the end of the first year BSc.

And in a fascinating turn, Josh spoke about the unexpected benefits of his final year research: GPS technology fitted to vultures to study their eating habits resulted in valuable visual data with a new application. This now sees the scavengers act as ‘flying police’’ with their bird’s eye view detecting whether the carrion they are consuming is from a poached animal, thus providing vital conservation benefits.

In June, students took part in the College’s inaugural Music and Performing Arts Pathways Competition, gaining valuable experience of performing in a professional audition-style setting.

Students showcased a range of talents, including music, dance, acting and musical theatre, before an expert judging panel comprising Tom Hughes (Dragonfly Music Studios), Katie Smith (festival and venue programmer), Lauren Haigh-Mason (Make Believe Wimbledon), and performer and actor Laura Piggott. Each student also received individual feedback to help develop their audition skills.

2nd Place: Evie Kruszynski-Blight (Dance)
3rd Place: Scarlett Matthews and Dan Simmons (Piano and Vocal Duet)
Music Festival Commendation Prize: The Century Band (Oliver Blogg, Jacob Ratnam, Ash Elliott and Charlie Hunt)
Special recognition for outstanding acting performances was awarded to James Westgarth, Leo Grayling, Kieran Jones and Austin Robson.

Hear from Reigate College’s Head of Art, Hannah Wiggins, about what to expect at this year’s Art & Design Exhibition, that’s being held this weekend (20 and 21 June) at Reigate Community Centre (behind Reigate Methodist Church). Saturday 2pm to 5pm and Sunday 1pm to 4pm. The exhibition is piggy-backing both Festival and (SAOS) to enable more people to experience, first-hand, our students’ incredible talent. Entrance is free, and all are welcome!

Congratulations to Rafi Rahman, who’s been offered a Level 3 sponsorship in Client Resolutions at Fidelity (financial services).

As part of the recruitment process Rafi, who was previously at Carrington School had to attend a day-long assessment centre alongside other hopefuls on 28 April, at Fidelity’s Head Office in Tadworth.

He said, “The assessment stage was pretty tough, with an interview and case study, but I got through it! I’ve been working at Screwfix since August last year, and that experience helped me for sure, especially in my interview stage! I’d encourage all young people to gain work experience, as you never know how it might help you in the future!”

He added, “Earning while I’m learning, not having a huge student debt and being able to commute from home, made me appreciate how exceptionally lucky I am to be given this brilliant opportunity.”

“I’d like to thank Carolyn Langford and Ellen Seddon from the College Careers team who were great at preparing me for interviews and what to expect at the assessment centre. Former student Finlay Truelove, who’s also an apprentice at Fidelity was also extremely supportive.”

If you love short films and are open to seeing a whole range of different films by local filmmakers of all ages (including films by former students), then head to this weekend’s Film Festival at Everyman Cinema in Reigate.

Entrance is free and seats will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Film Festival (that’s party of ) is the brainchild of one of the College’s A Level Film Studies course leaders Yvonne McCoach.

Just four days to go before the start of Reigate Summer Festival (19-21 June).

With Music in mind, a huge thank you to John Evans, Head of Music at the College and his brilliant team, for all they do in preparing our students for their time in the spotlight - what an amazing experience for them!

The College’s Music students will be performing on the Tunnel and Clocktower stages on Friday from 5pm and then on Saturday afternoon at 3.30pm, on the Community Stage (behind Reigate Methodist Church on the High Street).

Congratulations to Lower Sixth student Franklin Newburn, who is working towards his Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award while volunteering with Stripey Stork.

Nicola Dawes from Stripey Stork said: “Franklin has become a valued member of our team. He consistently demonstrates a positive attitude and willingness to get involved in all aspects of our work, from sorting donations and packing referrals to supporting new volunteers and helping at events.”

Franklin attended a celebration at Loseley Park on Thursday 11 June marking 70 years of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, as a guest of Stripey Stork. Nicola added: “He spoke with confidence and warmth about our work and reflected thoughtfully on his volunteering experience.



“He engaged with a wide range of guests, including the Lord-Lieutenant, the High Sheriff, the CEO of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Ruth Marvel OBE, and community and business leaders. His confidence, maturity and enthusiasm stood out – he was a credit to himself, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and Reigate College.”
