Year 1 had an amazing time at the British Wildlife Centre last week!
They got up close with hedgehogs, learned fun owl facts, and spotted badgers, otters, deer, rats and mice.
Even a few heavy downpours couldn’t dampen the excitement.
Everyone returned to school a little soggy, but smiling and full of new knowledge about British wildlife.

We are delighted to share with you some of our highlights from our recent Ofsted inspection which took place in February 2026.
The report, pleasingly, highlights so many of our strengths. While “excellent behaviour is a hallmark of Wray Common”, we are proud that this is achieved through a nurturing, relational approach, not from a place of control. Inspectors evidenced that “Leaders place pupils’ character, happiness and emotional health at the centre of school life. They ensure that all pupils, including those who are disadvantaged or face additional challenges, feel fully included and valued.” This holistic approach, aligned with an “ambitious curriculum” and staff who “care deeply” for the children means that our children “feel safe, happy…show strong self-discipline and…have highly positive attitudes to learning”.

The whole staff team are proud to be part of the children’s lives and we thank our community for their ongoing support!
The full report can be found on our website. Greensand Multi Academy Trust

This week marks National Volunteers’ Week and on behalf of everyone at Wray Common, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful community of volunteers, including parents, carers, extended family members, Governors and the Friends of Wray Common.

We are incredibly grateful for the time, energy and support our volunteers give to the school. Whether fundraising, listening to children read, accompanying classes on trips, or helping with the many activities that keep our school running smoothly, your contributions make a real difference.

Thank you for everything you do to support our children, staff and wider school community.

Yesterday, the whole school came together to enjoy our Annual Sports Day - and luckily, the sun was shining! KS1 kicked off the morning with plenty of energy and team spirit, rounding off their events with a lovely lunch. In the afternoon, KS2 impressed us all with their determination, teamwork, and enthusiasm. A big ‘thank you’ to all the staff and Year 6 Sports Crew who helped make the day a success!

Diabetes UK is our chosen charity for our final charity day this year! This charity is close to our hearts at Wray Common.
Today, we invited children and staff to participate in Rainbow Day in exchange for a donation to Diabetes UK. Each year group is invited to come into school wearing an outfit themed around a colour of the rainbow so we can collectively come together as a school and bring lots of joy and colour to our charity day. We are asking for donations via the JustGiving page but are also accepting cash donations should you wish to donate that way. Our page to donate is live until Friday 5th June. Thank you for helping us to raise money and awareness about this charity! https://www.justgiving.com/page/wraycommonschoolfundraiserdiabetesuk?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL

Today is National Numeracy Day. This is a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of numeracy and confidence with maths and it is the UK’s only campaign dedicated to improving everyday maths. Wishing our amazing Year 6 children the very best of luck this SATs week! 🌟

They have worked incredibly hard, stayed positive, and shown true determination and resilience throughout. These tests do not define them - their kindness, creativity, and courage already make them shine every single day.

Year 1 had a very exciting visitor today - Papaya the bearded dragon! As part of our science learning this half term, the children had the incredible opportunity to meet and hold something extraordinary in their hands! They were amazed by Papaya’s rough, scaly skin and loved learning about the special features that help bearded dragons survive in hot, dry habitats linking this to our learning this half term about reptiles.

It was a wonderful hands-on experience that brought our science learning to life and sparked lots of curiosity and questions. A huge thank you to Mrs Casaclang for bringing Papaya in to visit us! 🦎
